Shocking development: Chris Pirillo turns against Apple

It appears as if Chris Pirillo’s year-long Apple love-affair is finally over.
Having invested a small fortune in buying practically every Apple product over the course of the last several months, Pirillo has slammed the firm’s 3G phone device as the worst phone ever.
Pirillo wrote on Twitter: “iPhone 3G is *THE* worst phone I’ve ever owned / used. Dropped calls, hard resets, immature OS. Stick with what you’ve got.”
Could this spark a frantic auction where Pirillo starts selling off the overpriced Apple hardware he has been acquiring recently?
The Pirillo Mac warehouse currently stocks: an iMac, Macbook Pros, a Macbook Air, a Mac Pro, a Mac Mini, Time Capsule (1 terabyte edition), iPods and a family MobileMe subscription.
Keeping a check on Apple shares next week should be interesting.

I think your going a bit to far with this. Chris only said he didn’t like the Iphone 3G, he didn’t say that about anything else. Chris didn’t include the computers in his thought about the iphone 3g.
I could say i don’t like my brothers toe, doesn’t mean i don’t like my brother.

It’s a turning point. This is the first time Chris Pirillo has dissed an Apple product since he announced his “Mac switch” from Windows. The can do no wrong does wrong.

All I can say is that Mr. Pirillo clearly hasn’t used many cell phones. Now, I don’t have a 3G iPhone, but I have had a 2G one since the day they came out. The 2.0.0 software was less stable than 1.1, but it has improved significantly with the two updates that have been released. I have had no issues with dropped calls; had a few hard starts with 2.0.0 but none since updating to 2.0.2; some slowing of typing with SMS; and slow response when Contacts are first opened. But I know Apple will soon sort out these minor issues.
I am completely satisfied and thrilled with my iPhone and wouldn’t trade it for any other smartphone.
As for the comments by Mr. Richie concerning “Apple’s overpriced hardware,” he hasn’t done any cost vs. feature comparisons.
Hey, folks, you want to keep on kludging along with Windows? Go ahead. As for me, I’ll continue to enjoy the superior Apple experience, having owned Macs exclusively for 19 years.

The only people who ever say “Apple can do no wrong” are Apple haters, _claiming_ that Apple lovers always say “Apple can do no wrong”.

I think you are over-reacting. I think he just does not like the 3G. No one has said that he dislikes any other mac products.

Come on people, do you not know the Pirillo? He is known for spewing out negative comments only to take them back or do a 180 once his little tantrum ends. I think he just spoke more out of anger and frustration than an actual hate for the iPhone 3G.

He’s entitled to voice his complaints over a product he doesn’t think works properly. I don’t think he should be slammed for that. He isn’t dissatisfied with his other Apple products, is he? He may be one of those few people who are having problems with his iPhone. Maybe he could try to get a replacement iPhone. Maybe there are a bunch of iPhones with defective 3G chipsets.
What the heck. If he’s unhappy about it, so be it. He can purchase another manufacturer’s smartphone. I’m sure his wife Ponzi is using an iPhone, too. I wonder if she’s having the same problem or is she just more tolerant and patient, waiting for Apple to resolve the problem.

My wife got me an iPhone and I really like it. I use it mostly for work, using Exchange, and it works without even a small hickup. I have never dropped a call, even living on the cusp of EDGE and 3G. I found a nice app for 1.99 called Mobilefinder which can work with Filezilla on my PC, or Cyberduck on a Mac to send many supported files to the phone which can save and display them. Perhaps they made some lemons. I have had only one car that never had a single ‘glitch’, so I really don’t expect high tech items to be any better. In fact, my Treo actually died inless than 3 months, and my RAZR failed after 9 months. That’s why I got the added warranty for the iPhone.

Chris has a right to say his opinions like we all do. The dropped calls and some of the other problems are actually issues of the network. The problem is, Apple says you have to use the substandard network of AT&T. I have seen stable phones crash from being connected to AT&T. They have the fewest dropped calls because they have the fewest CONNECTED calls. I hear from people who have hacked their iPhones that the device works wonderfully on Verizon and T-Mobile. Even so, the price is so out of proportion to the function in the case of the iPhone that I will not be buying one.

Hello,
I think you perhaps misunderstand Chris Pirillo’s weltanschauung, Pablo. While I think it is fair to say their is some small amount of positive bias towards some Apple products and negative bias towards some Microsoft products these are derived from Pirillo’s own experiential view, and I think he does make an attempt to communicate this to his audience.
Pirillo is less of an operating system or a company fanboy than a usability fanboy. What drives Chris is how well a device, program or service performs, how relevant it is to his needs and the interface it provides the end user.
An example of this can be found here in Pirillo’s review of the Apple MacBook Air. Although short (just a second or two), he has distilled his experience that quickly, and I do not think that anyone would say it is favorable.
If anything, I would conclude that “Chris Pirillo calls ‘em as he sees ‘em,” so to speak in the modern vernacular, and while his own feedback loops may certainly influence his thoughts —whose don’t, pray tell—you cannot say after this MacBook Air and iPhone 3G comments that he is uncritical when he feels a poor experience has been provided, regardless of the developer of the device in question.

I wish Chris would dump his Mac stuff and go back to Windows, he has set his standards too high for any tech company to match. He complains about every glitch as if his or someone’s life depended on it. I’ve stopped reading his blog a while ago too much whining.
