Five reasons why you should not download Firefox 3 today

I know plenty of people will be rushing to download a copy of the final version of Firefox 3 today when it’s released. But here are five reasons why you should wait a few days before you even think about downloading:
- The Mozilla servers will crash today if too many people attempt to download the software at the same time. By holding off at least a few days before downloading you’ll be helping the community no end, and doing the good folk over at Mozilla a great service.
- As with any new software, there’s almost certainly going to be bugs and flaws found in today’s release. You can save yourself a whole lot of hassle by letting other users have to deal with these problems today. Download the software when these issues have been properly fixed.
- There’s still a lot of extensions and plugins that are not fully compatible with the new version of Firefox. Give the developers time to solve these glitches by sticking with Firefox 2 for now.
- Firefox 2 has been thoroughly tested by tens of millions of computer users around the world. You have it working exactly how you want, and it’s stable and reliable. Firefox 3 in comparison has been tested by a very limited number of people. I won’t regard Firefox 3 as stable until it’s been let loose on a wider range of people and computer systems.
- New does not always equal better. Just ask those who upgraded to Windows Vista before the first service pack was released by Microsoft.
So the smart decision is to wait awhile before you rush out to download the latest version of Firefox.

If they did not think the servers could handle it why are they trying to break the world record.

We find it’s always best to wait to download anything new, especially to get the kinks out of it.

Since they are going for the world record, why not download it? You don’t have to install it yet.

your probably right, however, I’ve been a tester of firefox 3 for a while. I think that I’ll make the full switch.

If they ask for it they should be prepared…
Just like Twitter… use our services - CRASH…
Sorry but preparation is key - to me I would look at this like a bad management decission….
One time is all it takes to tick off the masses….

I don’t think its a bad idea at all to download. Think about it. The truth is, yes, there servers are currently fubar’d. Reason is because it is an awesome browser. However, have you ever checked their process for software. Talk about beta software extensively tested! Buzilla as well. I wouldn’t worry about bugs on download day. The extensions actually work. The extension creators are uploading new ones as we speak. And yes, it is very stable. Have you tried RC3. Works like a charm.

Nice write up, but such noobish comments really doesn’t do FireFox v3.0 justice. Your 1st statement show how unrealistic you premise is about the servers. The might be a slowdown, but not a crash of the servers, or else it would of been widely reported throughout the internet news sources. Secondly you made no mention on your experience with RC3 of Firefox v3, if you had major bug issues to relate to. There are many online that can dispute the instability/bugs that you’ve started off with. Of course no amount of testing can insure 100% bug-free software; Internet Explorer 7 anyone? An by the way, how long should Mozilla kept FIREFOX in development, RC4 or RC5? I think you’ve gone about it all wrong telling folks to wait around to download this browser based on your reasoning.

I disagree with part of your statement. I have used the betas and two release candidates. I haven’t had much in the way of difficulties, so there would be no hesitation on my part to download the actual release (if I felt the need to follow the herd).
I like the newest Opera too. It’s great that they’re both multi-platform.
