Amazon UK confirmed this morning they have completely sold out of their allocation of pre-order stock for Home Premium and Professional editions of Windows 7 inside 24 hours.
A customer services rep said, in classic contradictory terms, that popular demand expected by the company led to a surprise sellout (not sure how you can be surprised by something you expect to happen).
Here’s the statement:
Regarding the item “Windows 7 Home Premium”, Windows 7 is a much awaited product and as we expected it has been a surprise sellout.
Due to high demand we have run out of our initial allocation of Windows 7 promotional items so the buy box for this products is temporarily unavailable and and I can’t guarantee if or when it will be available for pre-order.
Although “Microsoft Windows 7 Home” is not currently in stock at our supplier, we are in the process of securing more stock from them. We will be happy to notify you when it becomes available for ordering.
Just don’t be surprised if the notification email you are not expecting fails to arrive.
