Able Web Editor

This tool is an HTML Editor with page samples that demystify the process of creating Web pages using HTML and Cascading Style Sheets. Published by Design Enterprises of San Francisco, this tool runs on Windows 98, ME, XP, and 2000 with IE5 or IE6 and a minimum screen size of 1024 by 768 pixels.

A “Getting Started” tutorial demonstrates how to use the program by illustrating how to create Web pages using HTML and CSS. The page samples describe the WCAG and Section 508, allowing Web sites to be accessible for all. You may edit a source file and view the changes immediately in the built-in browser. The free demo version of the program has no time restrictions.

Able Web Editor Full Edition includes tools for selecting color and background patterns as well as preparing image tags and image maps (hot spots).

You can edit an external style sheet or script file in a separate window and view the results with a couple of mouse clicks. Custom buttons let you enter commonly used text and HTML tags. Able Web Editor can be used to test and run server-side scripts locally including PHP, PERL, MySQL, ASP, JSP, and Miva. A unique dialog box allows you to globally replace up to 100 pairs of phrases simultaneously to convert from HTML to XHTML or from one script language to another. The page samples included in the full version include cross browser compatibility references for IE 4, 5, and 6, Mozilla, Netscape 4 and 6, and Opera browsers as well as the W3C’s HTML, CSS, and XHTML standards. The page samples also include tables that convert named colors to their hexidecimal or decimal number equivalents and show a gray scale.

“An HTML Editor that helps to take the frustration out of creating Web pages. This is a good starting place for those wanting to get started the right way.” Matt Hartley, Lockergnome.com
