I was going to cover this story in Japan for the ORIGAMI market, but…. What’s with the coin hidden in the folded paper that is briefly visible at the 01:31 point of the video? That’s not very kosher [Japanese Kosher?] for ORIGAMI is it?
Yup, sure ‘nuf. 1:31 you can see the coin, then he takes it out of shot so he can get it closer to the papers edge to leverage the cap. But as stated, too long to get to my brew… lighter, counter edge, etc. A true drinker though always carries a bottle opener with them :)

Taro in Tokyo at news.3Yen.com -> That’s not a coin, it’s the tip of his finger. I tried this with a piece of paper and a bottle of Becks, it took a couple short attempts to get, but it worked fine. I’ll still make my girlfriend fetch the can opening for me though from the kitchen, though. Muhaha.
I do not believe there is a coin hidden here. I have watched this video about 30 times and there is no point in which there is an opportunity for a coin to be inserted. The only time the paper and hands leave the frame is at 1:36 which is after the “coin” appears. At first I thought the coin must have been put into the paper before it even appears on video but this is not the case as you can clearly see all parts of the paper in the video and there is no coin attached or concealed. After viewing close screenshots of the 1:31 mark I have determined that the effect is caused by a trick of shadow and some of the folds from the paper coming loose.
Where’d my comment go?? If deleted, mods please email with explanation. Anyway There is NOT a coin at 01:31… that is clearly a fingertip. Also to the other naysayers, this is a DEMONSTRATION that it’s possible. The author was not suggesting that you open your beers this way always and forever. Lighten up.
