Zone Alarm Free Edition Conflicts With New Microsoft Update

According to my buddy Steve Bass, over at PCWorld.Com, the latest MS update to correct the DNS vulnerability keeps folks using ZA Free Edition from accessing the Internet after reboot.
If you have any friends using Zone Alarm’s free firewall along with Windows Auto Update, it might be nice to give them a call (they won’t be receiving your emails for a while). You can read about it on Steve’s blog.
And yes, all you Mac and Linux people, we know you don’t have the problem. Keep it to yourself. You’re so predictable (and soooo boring).

ZA is offering an updated version of their free basic firewall to correct this issue. The newest version is 7.0.483.000.
I can personally verify this will correct the problem.
The download can be acquired here:

I downloaded the latest ZoneAlarm version 7.0.483.000 which restored my internet connection - however, I am now unable to update AVG Version 8.01.138 without switching off ZoneAlarm, updating AVG and then swithching ZoneAlarm back on again. Any suggestions?
I don’t use either program any more, but with most firewalls it is possible to go into advanced options and edit the list of permissions. Find the address of the AVG update site that’s being blocked, and try entering that. Alternatively, find your list of forbidden sites and see if there are any AVG sites listed. If there are, delete them. See your help file or the FAQs on the site for details. Considering how common both programs are, there must be information available about this, unless it’s an individual problem caused by your inadvertently having forbidden AVG update.
