Archer, Florida’s most famous citizen passed away yesterday. Bo Diddley was one of the architects of rock, a self-taught musician whose distinctive sound — coaxed from a series of homemade guitars — influenced just about every rock musician of the 20th Century.
NPR had a great piece on Bo this morning, with a retrospective of some of his better-known songs (including his eponymous 50’s hit) and interviews with musicians who knew and worked with him. At the end, the local announcer came on and, clearly thinking about his next announcement, tied it up: “Bo Diddley died yesterday. He was seventy-nine degrees.”
He was a lot hotter than that, kid.
