Spread Firefox | Download Day 2008

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome. Spread Firefox | Download Day 2008

I thought the author had not included the date, but it turns out that it is yet to be announced. I have been looking forward to the new Firefox all year, it will be much improved.

I’ve never had a substantive complaint about Firefox (running on my present computer, which is fast with plenty of RAM) except for the slowness with which it opens (20 seconds). That’s due to the fact that it’s a standalone program — as opposed to Internet Explorer, which is part of the operating system — and to the number of add-ons. But one of the two major reasons I use Fx to begin with is the customization available with the add-ons. I’m running 18 at the moment, so I do hope they’ve addressed that.

On the other hand, since I use mostly online applications such as Google Docs, once the browser is open I rarely close it unless I shut the machine down, so 20 seconds isn’t really a big deal, especially since I have it set up to open automatically during boot. I’m not looking forward to running it on my Eee when I get it, though.
