In the two weeks since the cyclone hit, the junta has allowed in a modest amount of supplies from a number of nations, but relief workers say it is far short of what they need to fend off starvation and disease. The United Nations says only 20 percent of the survivors have received even “rudimentary aid.”

Oh puh-leeze! The international community clearly doesn’t give a rat’s ass. Two weeks of injuries, starvation and now disease, and they’re just getting around to sending an “envoy” to the capital — where he probably won’t be able to meet with the boss of bosses (none of whom have bothered to visit the affected area).
If anyone really cared, there would have been a US carrier group off the Burmese coast last week, with Super Hornets flying cover for relief aircraft and daring the generals to do anything about it. What the hell good is power if you only use it to start wars and spend money?
Bottom line: those people in the Irrawaddy Delta have nothing to offer rich people. My Burmese cat had more conscience than the entire international “community” (which isn’t).
