The Future Is In My Hands

I hold the future of world civilization in my hands this year — literally — in the form of a voter’s registration card.   The care with which I choose in the coming elections will determine the quality of life for Americans and the rest of the world for decades, if not centuries.

This is not an election that should be decided on partisan lines.  In the past, both parties have shown a willingness to govern for political gain instead of for the good of their constituents as a whole.  That is what I must vote against.

I need to look carefully at the candidates in both parties now, during the primaries, and especially during the run-up to the general elections in November.  I need to discern those — of whatever political identification — who will gather a consensus and solve the problems that affect the greatest numbers, rather than simply pimping for special interests, even those special interests that are nearest and dearest to my own heart.

It is time for every human being on the planet to begin thinking about the whole, rather than the little bits and pieces of personal gain that have turned our world into an incipient nightmare.  That is what I must do, for my children, grandchildren and the rest of the world.  I…we.. cannot control directly what the other 5.7 billion people on the planet do, but we can influence issues and move our own efforts in the right direction.  To do so, however, will require political will and character unseen in this country for far too long.

Will you rise to the challenge of finding the people who will do the job, not just make promises?  I’m going to try.

What Do You Think?
