Microsoft says Vista was bad and will get better

Durning Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference Brad Brooks, Corporate Vice President of Windows Consumer Product Marketing, admitted that they screwed up with Vista,

We broke a lot of things. We know that, and we know it caused you a lot of pain. It got customers thinking, hey, is Windows Vista a generation we want to get invested in?

This came during his keynote speech and he said its time to start admitting the mistakes and that they are ready to say that Vista is finally stable and ready for the mainstream. For a former and Microsoft enthusiast this is good news to hear. It’s about time Microsoft started to admit their mistakes and vow to change some things. Vista has gotten better since SP1 but I feel it is still not ready for the everyday user. Maybe with a UI here or there and with better 3rd party printer support it should be fine for everyone.

Also Brooks addressed the “I am a Mac” ads stating that is has had some impact on those switching from XP to Vista and those who decided to move to Mac.We’ve got a pretty noisy competitor out there,” Brooks said of Apple whose “I’m a Mac… and I’m a PC”, commercials criticize Windows Vista. You know it. I know it. It’s caused some impact. We’re going to start countering it. They tell us it’s the iWay or the highway. We think that’s a sad message. Software out there is made to be compatible with your whole life.

So finally Microsoft is admitting to their mistakes and are going to try energize excitement and Windows Vista. So does this make you feel better about switching to Vista? Or are you content on XP? Or perhaps like me you switched to OS X because of Vista, let us know via a comment.

My laptop came with vista and i try to make the best of it..i wanted to switch to xp but since i didnt like xp i thought mac was the way to go..then i realized the “iway” just isnt my thing. ill wait it out for vista

I’ve held out with XP until today. I just ordered a new HP laptop fully loaded and with Vista installed. Since the release of SP1 I have been seeing more positive comments about the OS. I decided I was ready to make the leap and try out the dark side.

Reading Brooks’ comments is encouraging, I must say.

I play with Ubuntu, just to learn about it but I have no interest in Apple’s stuff at all. I’ve been using MS OS’s since DOS 2.0. I’m not ready to abandon all that!

Show me who still sells systems with XP preinstalled, and I’ll show you the best and brightest future. Can’t wait for Windows 7!

I know what you mean Bruce. Even though I am on a Macbook I still use XP in a virtual machine for different things, and it runs better in VMware Fusion then it did on my 2006 Dell laptop with similar specs.

I installed Vista. Had no nvidea driver support. NEC had no support. I put XP back on and Installed Linspire (LINUX)
It installed in 15 minutes and found all my hardware. Small learning curve. If you work windows you can use Linspire.
Linux does not crash all the time. It is so much more stable than Windows XXX. I run XP only for Flightsim. That is all XP/Vista is good for. My important software now works on Linux

Some times free is best. A happy worker is a good worker. payed or GNU.

When Vista and Ubuntu are competitively priced, you will know that the Evil Empire has fallen.

When faced with the prospect of having to use Vista, I went out and got my first Mac. No regrets.

I am sticking with XP, easy to get aroung very stable and everything works. I figure MS will have everything fixed by the time they come out with Windows 7 then I will consider an update and if they don’t there are other platforms.

This link explains why vista is totally broken and can never be made into an operating system which works properly.

I have used linux for about 8 years and it does everything I want.
If you want to change, go for the Ubuntu distribution, find your nearest linux user group, they should be happy to help you, get used to googling for answers, look in the forums for help.
Expect to have a learning curve, get used to no virus scanner and no spyware scanner.

What Do You Think?
