MobileMe to launch July 9th
MobileMe, Apples successor to .Mac, will go live on July 9th in the late afternoon. Apple announced this today via a status update on .Mac. Apple states that the updates will go from 6pm until the rest of the day, this means that www.mac.com will be taken offline. Here is the status update from Apple,
MobileMe Launch 7/9/2008, 6pm-12am PT As part of the MobileMe launch, www.mac.com will be taken offline at 6pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th. Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch. MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.
One can only assume that the Iphone/iPod Touch 2.0 firmware would have to launch before on at the time as this update. It would be unApple like for them to release MobileMe without having full support from the current iPhone and iPod Touch users. Some people have stated from day 1 that the iPhone firmware will drop tomorrow, which is a Tuesday, and it seems to sound right because Apple usually sends updates on Tuesday.
This is going to be one huge week for Apple.
