Beatles representatives are in talks with two companies to create a Beatles-themed video game in a move that could pave the way for a broader licensing of the Fab Four’s catalogue.

The representatives have held discussions with both Activision and MTV Games, the respective makers of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, in which players strum along to favourite songs or form virtual bands.

This news comes from the Financial Times and if you are a fan of The Beatles and music is must make you happy. The Beatles have been shy of the digital age and have not embraced any new formats since the compact disk a few years ago. If this deal goes down for either company, Activision or MTV Games it could strike a whole new generation of fans for The Beatles, of course another way is to get The Beatles to add their music to iTunes, but I guess we can’t have it all.

I don’t know about you but I am ready to play Helter Skelter and the entire Sgt. Peppers album. So is anyone else out there as excited as I am?
