CNET’s getting a facelift

CNET has been one my favorite sites for a long time. From its great video reviews to its great coverage of news events, and more recently its blogs, CNET is always on top the game with tech news. Yesterday Dan Farber of CNET posted a new blog post showing off the new CNET theme which is expected to be in beta in the coming weeks. As Dan puts it,

Web sites are in a state of continuous evolution, and over the years, CNET has undergone several minor facelifts. We decided it was time for a more substantial change that did a better job of presenting our content to 17 million monthly visitors (Nielsen/NetRatings, May 2008).

He is right CNET has not had a major update in a long time. In many ways it is still the same website that had the fugly yellow look, God I miss those days. The first thing will notice about the new CNET is that yellow is a thing of the past and the new logo will reflect the site, with red, black, and white as the primary colors.

So what do you think of the new theme, do you think it is fine as is? Also what websites do you think should be updated to a new theme? My personal pick is Gmail and Google Docs, but that’s just me.
