Google’s Android delayed… Somewhere Steve Jobs is smiling

Its hard enough to compete with Apple’s iPhone but Google is starting to fall behind. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google’s Android, a mobile phone operating system, could be delayed until early 2009. One of the problems is that developers have stated that it is hard to develop for the platform because Google keeps changing the code for its own software.

T-Mobile USA expects to deliver an Android-powered phone in the fourth period. But that launch is taking up so much of Google’s attention and resources that Sprint Nextel Corp., which had hoped to launch an Android phone this year, won’t be able to, a person familiar with the matter said.China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier in the world with nearly 400 million subscriber accounts, had planned to launch an Android phone in the third quarter but it has run into issues that will likely delay the launch until late this year or early 2009, a person familiar with the matter says.

This is bad news for Google considering that the iPhone 2.0 firmware will hit sometime next month, which means the Appstore will go live. This means that any Joe can make an application for the iPhone and make a profit. Also the new iPhone will only cost $200 in the States, which doesn’t hurt at all.

So does Google have a chance to compete with the iPhone? Will Android be ready for prime time?  Hit up the comments and let us know!
