Ballmer knocks Google for doing a good job

Steve Ballmer is great. I like to think of him as the Ozzie Guillen of the technology world. As we all know he likes to talk down or down play the greatness of another company or their product, recently his target was Google. Ballmer talks to the Fininancial Times about Google.

“I mean, they have a gestalt, but gestalt is gestalt. Let’s talk about the reality. The reality is one product makes 98 percent of all of their money, search. Oh, they have two products, AdWords and AdSense. They have two products, both search-based, that make all of their money, and it hasn’t changed a lot in five years.”

So basically he is saying that Google is good at what they do, which according to him isn’t a lot. Remember most of Google’s products are free. Such as Gmai, Google Docs, Google Calendar, and countless other projects from Google Labs. Making all of that money from Adwords and Adsense allows them to give us, the users, great free apps that are polished, fast, and just a joy to use. This is unlike what Microsoft does. They offer a thousand different services, most of which cost a good bit of money to own, and most with their problems.

Ballmer sounds kind of like the Iraqi newscaster who kept saying that the American armies were being trounced by the indomitable Iraqi forces.
