Can I upgrade my laptop processor? Can you help me?

I have a Dell E1505, 6400, 1.66 GHZ core solo inside of the machine. I was wondering if it is possible to replace that old core processor and replace it with a dual-core? Also the chip-set inside of my laptop is the Intel 945. I would like to get an answer before I try to buy the laptop processor. I tried to ask Dell but they told me that I couldn’t do this because it voids my warranty, I have no warranty… weird?
If you have any information that could help me that would be great! Also with the current set up could I upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM?
