How To Keep Your Xbox 360 From Overheating

Want to avoid the Red Rings of Death (RROD)? Everyone does, but it’s almost a guarantee that it will happen if you have an older Xbox 360. With these tips, though, you shouldn’t see the RROD for a while.

  1. Keep your Xbox 360 clean. Make sure you dust your system weekly, this is especially important if you have pets.
  2. Keep it off of other appliances. Sometimes people, like myself, stack electronics on top of each other, but do not do that with the Xbox 360! You should keep it on its on shelf.
  3. Do not put it on the carpet. You should never keep the Xbox 360 or its power brick on the carpet because hair and dust can be sucked into the console.
  4. Do not play it for extended periods on time. Try to keep your gaming time under four hours. After that time turn it off for about 45 minutes and let it rest and cool back down.
  5. Do not have the Xbox 360 turned on in extreme conditions. If your AC is broken and its extremely hot in the room the 360 is in do not play the system. It has a greater chance to overheat that way.
