DIVX + Xbox 360 = A Beautiful Thing

Today the Xbox 360 received its Fall update, about time, and with it came some wonderful new features like a parental timer for parents or like the new Xbox Originals in which you can download and play hit games like Halo from the original Xbox for roughly around $15, will all of that is fine and dandy there’s a new addition to the Xbox that will sure to please anyone who loves videos and that is the support of DIVX. This is a huge deal because most videos floating around on the Internets, like that President Bush reference, use the DIVX format which includes .divX and .avi files.

So now I can fully stream all of the content from my Windows PC onto my Xbox 360 with no problems. Like many folks I have a big collection of movies stored on my PC and its nice to be able to watch them on the big screen at full resolution. So this Christmas Eve I plan on hooking up the ol’ Xbox 360 in the living room and playing some good Christmas movies like Frosty, Jingle all the Way(a classic), A Christmas Story, and of course A Charlie Brown Christmas.

One side note, in order to watch DIVX movies you must download the codec, in order to do this you need to start a DIVX movie and select download the media update. It might say that you already have it but you need to redownload it seeing that it has been updated for the new codecs.
