Oh Crap! Big Computer Problem!

Ok so I have a standard built in CD-RW/DVD ROM drive in my Dell laptop and up to today it has worked fine until the drive was not reconginzed my Vista. When ever I put a disk in there it reads it but thats as far as it goes. I went to the Device Manager and this is what it said:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I checked and it said the driver was fine and up to date. I have no clue what to do about this. Does anyone know any solutions for this? The drive is a Phillips CDRW/DVD SCB5265 ATA Device.
Update: I have fixed this by using a solution on Microsoft’s web page. The drive appears to be working fine after deleting a few files from the registry.
Thanks in advance![tags]DVD drive, Phillips, Windows Vista[/tags]

Can you eject the dvd drive? If you can, eject the drive and then put it back in; and see if Vista recognizes the drive. If you can not eject the dvd drive; then the best thing to do is check Dells web site and see if they have any updated drivers for the dvd drive. You may want to look on Philips web site and see if they have any updated drivers. If all this fails you will want to backup all your data and re-install Vista using the restore cds that may have come with your laptop or you will have to order the restore cds from Dell.
Sorry to hear that you are having these problems and good luck with trying to get it fixed. Please let me know how you fixed your laptop when you get it all fixed.

I don’t (won’t) have Vista but this should work the same way. Most of the time it will fix this type of problem but not always.
Open Device Manager and delete the DVD drive. Scan for hardware changes and it should find the device and re-install it and the drivers. Test your drive.
