Could You Answer A Few Basic Monitor Questions For Me?

So I am looking to get a LCD computer monitor this Christmas for my laptop and also I want to buy a HD-DVD player as well, see the post below, but I am new to hooking devices up to monitors. Obviously I know how to hook the laptop up to the screen but can you hook up a HD-DVD player straight to the monitor? The monitor has a DVI port so does that mean it can support HD? Here is the link to the monitor of interest. I know you can buy a HDMI to DVI connecter but does it loose any of its quality when doing so? Will the picture be in 720p at least? Will it be as clear as a normal HD TV?
Also for the monitor i am looking to use my Xbox 360 on there as well. I know that it only officially supports VGA, so how does that look? Can it actually do HD? If so at what resolution?
If you have any other recommendations for monitors, hook up wires, or what ever related to this then please leave the links as a comment!

You can hook up an HD-DVD player using a cable with two different plugs on the ends (one different on each end, DVI-I on one and HDMI on the other). The only internal wiring difference between a DVI and a HDMI cable is that HDMI supports both audio and video following through the same cable. Both types of cables are HD video. I couldn’t tell you whether this your desired monitor is 720p or 1080i. My guess would be 720p since it is in the value line of Acer’s product line. I’m also not sure about the XBOX360 integration. Sorry I wasn’t of too much help but I figured that my two cents are better than nothing.

Probably a dumb question, but not knowing a lot about computers, do all brands of LCD monitors connect to all computers, or are they brand-specific? I have an HP, can I hook up any monitor to it? Thanks!
