Vista Almost Made Me Fail My Class (A Really Scary Halloween Story)

  • No Related Post

Today I got so frustrated with Microsoft’s love child, Vista, and it has caused me to start to move back to an old friend, Windows XP. Before I get into the story I am not a Windows basher by any means. I love their products, I have a Zune, Xbox 360, and and I would never trade either, so please don’t comment saying “Oh he hates Windows, he must be a Mac Fanboy, or “He doesn’t know how to use a computer(look at my Vista made me speechless articles comments. So without any delay here is my Scary Vista school story.

After my school changed their remote access desktop software it made it damn near impossible to do my school work. First off I go to a tech school for Web Design and often there is less then 5 people in my classes so they are usally done online, like this quarter in which I am taking a Photoshop and with the recent upgrades my computer has done nothing but lagged crazy bad with the new software. Everyone out there knows that photo editing can be a real pain especially with a distinctive 15-40 second lag, sometimes making it impossible to do my work. At first I thought it might be my network, or even theirs, but I was wrong.

After hours of frustration I decieded to test it out on the family PC, the one with XP and older specs then my new Dell laptop, and guess what? The remote desktop worked just fine, no lag, nothing but smooth sailing. How could this be? I mean we are on the same network, and that PC is wired my laptop is wireless? So right after that I started to look around the house trying to find the old Windows Installation disk, luckily I found the bad boy. I decieded to try it out in Virtual PC 2007 just so I wouldn’t have to waist the day unistalling and installing Windows. After around 2 hours or so XP was complete. I devoted only 256mb of 1gig of ram to the virtual machine seeing as XP only needs 128mb to run. So how was the performance?

Oh how I missed you XP

It ran just as well as the family PC with virtually no lag and it made me realize how much I miss the stability of Windows XP. Is Vista that bad at reading older software, or even worse new software? I haven’t made up my mind yet if I will be moving back but I am thinking about it. So have any of you “upgraded” back to XP?

I never even went to vista. When I got my new mac, I installed XP, I didn’t want the headaches….

Installing Vista on my Dell laptop caused me to buy my first Mac since 1996. While I guess this makes me one of those Mac fanboys, I did “upgrade” back to XP when installing Windows on the Mac.

Hello,

Are you using a version of Adobe Photoshop which is designed to work with Microsoft Windows Vista or with an older version? If the latter, have you tried running it in compatibility mode for an older version of Microsoft Windows or disabling the Aero 3-D interface and Glass effects? If so, did that make any difference?

Aryeh Goretsky

Vista seems to work well for me, i wouldn’t want to go back to XP, besides, since I have a new laptop, I can’t!
