Xbox 360 HD DVD Problem (Fix Inside for movies like Knocked Up and Transformers)

Recently my brother purchased a copy of the movie Knocked Up, very funny you should watch it, and for some reason the HD side of the disk did not work it would just revert back to the home screen on his Xbox 360 HD DVD player so we tried the DVD side of the disk and it worked like a charm. The next day he returned it for another version, guess what? He had the same problem as before. So after a little while I figured out what was wrong with this, and here is how to fix it if you have the same problem with any movie on your Xbox 360 HD DVD player:
- Go to the System blade
- Scroll down and select Memory
- Scroll down and Select HD Player ( do NOT select Hard Drive)
- Here you will find the cookies from the HD DVD player, you will need to delete one that is 11mb but if you do not see that then delete all of the cookies, that is what I had to do
- So DELETE all of the cookies unless you have found the 11mb cookie then delete that one
- Try the disk again and if it comes up to a loading screen you have done it! Your movie will work now
This will take several minutes to load so please do not hit cancel because that will take you back to square one. So there you go have fun watching your new movie and hopefully there will be a permanent fix so that this issue doesn’t happen again.

It did not work. I had no cookies. I call Microsoft and they had me do a harddrive maintence. They said that should have done the same as deleting the cookies. Which they said that the box doesn’t have.
So, if I have no cookies to delete, what can I do? It will not play any HD dvd’s. DVD’s run fine. Please help. Microsoft wants me to send in the player with $60 to get repaired. The player works on my PC.

Great post … but it didn’t seem to work for me. This problem is really frustrating. I’ve watched several HD-DVD’s on my system, but for some reason its just stopped working. I tired deleting the cookies, but I encountered the same problem (I didn’t get a loading screen either).

An update to my earlier post - I got it working!!
I don’t know if the deleting cookies also helped but I eventually tried by rebooting the HD-DVD drive (as opposed to rebooting the Xbox itself!!!). As soon as I did that, the HD-DVD player came to life.
I tried several time taking the power cable out of the Xbox360 and replacing it to hard boot it, but it didn’t work. Then I remembered that the HD-DVD accessory has its own power supply, so I tried that - and it worked.
Just to recap - my symptoms before this were that the HD-DVD player played normal DVD’s just fine, but would not play HD discs. It kept jumping back to the Xbox dashboard.

I have the same problem too. The HD DVD player worked just fine once but now it won’t load up. I have the elite so there are no cookies, or HD DVD devices to select in the system blade????

I’m gonna tell I was stumped. I called Microsoft support and they had no idea that this was going on with the web enabled update freezes with Transformers or Knocked Up. I got a lot of Man Love for ya. This fix has alleviated my pain. I’ll be passing this info on. Thank you.

Thank you very much! I was having problems where my xbox 360 elite would actually lockup when I put in Knocked Up HD DVD. I deleted the 11mb file off my player and now all is well. Thanks.

Excellent advice. Called XBox Twice with no help. Called them the third time to let them know how to fix it with your solution.

You’re awesome! This glitch from Knocked Up apparently affects Shrek 3 on HDDVD, too. I just spent two hours with Microsoft trying to understand why after playing Shrek once it wouldn’t work again–I kept getting C66700A status code. Microsoft had no idea and told me my Shrek disc was bad, but I knew it wasn’t. After digging around, I found this post. I rented and played Knocked Up in between my viewings of Shrek. Once I erased the cookies, my Shrek 3 HDDVD fired right up. I tried calling Microsoft to let them know of the solution, but they had no idea what I was talking about and couldn’t be bothered. Thanks again!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I even called Microsoft only to be told that it was a common problem and they had “no idea whatsoever when the update would be ready” The guy said it was a “firmware update problem” and to just be patient. Once again Many Thanks!

Thanks man I was really getting frustrated with transformers I watched it once but a couple months later it just kicked back to the dashboard and I knew the disc was fine. For those who asked about why only normal disk are playing I wanted to make sure that you bought the HD dvd player which comes seperate because the elite itself doesn’t play HD movies. I just wanted to clarify cause when my friend bought his he was asking me the same thing he thought that the 360 played HD

Hey guys just stumbled upon this forum. May I ask, has anyone got video lag issues on there xbox 360s with the hd DVD drive? I have cleared the cookies as mentioned earlier and also tried a hard power down of my 360 hd DVD drive. I have only watched 2 hd dvds so far. Shrek 3 and norbit. Help!
