The Ubuntu guys released beta version 7.10. This is of course still in beta form so it has a few bugs here and there. For the first time Ubuntu was able to install my wireless cards drivers! Also my network printer works wonderfully with the new release. So to me this is the best version of Ubuntu released to date. So please go here to download and test the beta.
For those of you afraid to install Linux on your PC you can always burn the .iso to a cd or dvd and boot from the disk and use Linux without ever touching your hard drive.

Burning the ISO on a CD works, of course. But it’s s.l.o.w. Wouldn’t it be nice if grub allowed one to install and run on a USB external drive or on a USB flash drive? Then you could keep the Windows disk untouched as well, but you’d have _speed_ to see Ubuntu in action. Seems do-able from googling the idea, but it also appears that no one has set forth a fool-proof recipe.
Yes, I need fool-proof.

You can use Wubi (http://wubi-installer.org) to do a “temporary” install and which can be removed through Windows Add/Remove Programs.
From the website:
Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, this is for you.
Wubi is Safe
It does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader.
Wubi is Simple
Just run the installer, no need to burn a CD.
Wubi is Discrete
Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and If you do not like, you can simply uninstall it.
I used it on my home PC and it works GREAT. So does Ubuntu - the more I use it, the more I like it.
