There is a great open source game floating around on the net entitled, Frets on Fire. This game is open source so that means that it doesn’t cost you a thing to download. The way this game works is thay you can download songs, google Frets on Fire songs, and add them to the game and using a legal version of the song you downloaded you can play it, just like Guitar Hero. There is also a Guitar Hero theme for Frets on Fire that emulates the sounds and looks of the popular game which you can find on Google.So how do you play it?Well you can use your keyboard to play the game but how is that fun? You can use the USB guitar from Guitar Hero 2 or 3 so long as its the USB version, which the Xbox 360 version it is. Now this works like a charm for Windows XP, I have yet to test it on OS X.Can I play Guitar Hero songs?The answer is yes if you can find a file, as mentioned before, that allows you to play the song but you must own the song, legally! Of course you can search for “frets on fire” on your favorite torrent site and find a song pack or two but thats illegal and I cannot tell you to do that.

I think that this is awesome for those of us who weren’t born with a silver spoon in their mouths and don’t have a chance to actually own the game… <3

Yes, I think this is great. I have the usb controller but cannot afford all the Guitar Hero games (I only have 2) so this is very good news!

The torrent that I am referring to has mp3s on the song, if own the songs then its 100% legal, but if you dont own the songs then yeah its illegal.

all i have to say:
1. this game is pretty good, nothing on guitar hero, but its free.
2. i don’t care if you have played with slash, and i dont think anyone else does as well. so stop thinking you are cool because u “supposedly” played with slash. and stop the cursing, scince it makes u look like imature 5 yr olds. you are here to comment on the game, not spaz out because u think this is a waste of time.
and last but not least…
3. downloading song packs of songs u don’t have IS illeagal you idiot. not all torrents are illegal but THOSE particular ones ARE.
Just thought i would come and clear some things up for you guys
PS the game is kind of in accurate, but u can get used to it.
