Enjoying Twin Monitors

  • No Related Post

After several months of finally moving to using 2 monitors with my main desktop system I am still having a heck of a good time with them. The more I use that particular setup the less enthralled I am when I have to move over to my laptop. Yes, the laptop is convenient and I can take it wherever I go, but I find that I am much more productive when I have more real estate to operate in.

I just finished a project for someone that required a list of supplies for about 10 different arts and crafts workshops. It was so nice to have the lists supplied by the artists on one screen and the Word document open on the other. There were plenty of opportunities to do a copy and paste rather than having to recopy the material that had been provided. Doing that with only one monitor would create a situation of minimize and maximize to the point of complete confusion for me. A task that might have taken me several hours to complete took only about one hour to compile and send via email. What a timesaver!

If you have not moved to using more than one monitor and have the opportunity to do so I highly recommend it. It is very easy to get used to but beware; you may never want to go back to using only one monitor.

That’s for sure! I have had 2 monitors on one machine or another since back when one was MDA, or Hercules, and one was VGA. It’s really easy now. Way back then, it was a pain, because not everything was meant to play nicely together. DesqView made it somewhat easier.

One thing I have always been aware of…I gravitate to the machine[s] with dual monitors, even though they might not have the most processing power. There is just something great about having 4 or more non-overlapping windows open at the same time!

Does one of your monitors have dual inputs? ‘Cause you can plug the laptop into it and use dual monitors that way. (Matrox also makes a really nice external adapter for multiple monitors on a laptop - called DualHeadtoGo

No affiliation, I’ve just been using Matrox cards for about 5 years since I got my first dual monitor setup.

And yea, it’s torture now to go back to a single monitor setup. Feels like I have one had tied behind my back.
