Brüno Review

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Brüno is far and away the funniest film I’ve seen this year — and I’ve seen The Hangover!  I remember watching Ali G Indahouse and thinking it was perhaps trying too hard to be funny, sadly coming off as boring.  But maybe if that film had been shot in the same style as Cohen’s more previous character effort, Borat, and new film, Brüno, it may have actually been worth watching.

Now I remember watching Borat a couple of years back and thinking it was pretty genius, yet that was the first and only time I’ve viewed that film.  I watched it, loved it, and never cared to watch it again (I’m still not sure why).  With Brüno, though, I immediately longed for a second viewing as the credits began to roll.  Brüno and Borat are films to be viewed with a mass audience, something that few film are meant to be made for — like Jackass but with far more imagination.

And if you’re wanting to judge the film based on the amount of shock it conjures as well as the insane situations it’s titular character goes, Brüno is probably twice the film that Borat was.  There were literally moments in the film that I was amazed that Cohen managed to escape with his life!  I will not spoil anything.

And while Borat was a film that worked because most of the people in it weren’t aware they were dealing with a fake character, Brüno rises above and beyond that premise — and if the movie is able to do one thing extremely well, it’s making haters and bashers of homosexuals seem like COMPLETE morons… and it does this by simply having them be themselves.  And my oh my at the number of gay jokes in this film — since the film is about an extremely flamboyant gay character from the get go, however, the audience cannot really complain (though I still heard several as I left the theatre).

I really wish to say no more, other than you must go out and experience this film ASAP!  Oh, and one of my only spoiler-free thoughts after seeing this film (one I also had after seeing Borat as well) was musing if Sacha Baron Cohen is worthy of an Academy Award for the portrayal of his characters — he didn’t just portray them, he WAS them, through and through.  Not a wink to the camera, never a single crack of a knowing smile, nothing!

Just Brüno.

I plan on seeing it Monday when there possibly no crowd when everyone else is at work.

i didnt think it was that good, there were some funny bits, however the movie as a whole was not that great.

I didnt really like Borat as i thought it was a bit OTT, so hence Bruno was not that great.

If you are intrigued go and watch it, see for yourself, just go with friends so that you have ppl to talk to when you get bored :)

no… well actually it is hard to pick cause i want to see it but then yet still i dont.

I am sick of seeing an incredible amount of advertising for this movie. So much, that it’s ruined any chance of me going to see it.

No, I am not going to see it. I just saw Borat not too long ago, and it wasnt nearly the funny movie that it was made out to be. His style of ‘confrontational comedy” is funny in small doses, but it reminded me too much of something like the movie Jackass, which, again, is OK in small doses, but stupidity can only go so far and still be funny.

I am so seeing that move when it’s released

I saw this yesterday, and it was hilarious! My cousin and I weren’t expecting it to be as good as Borat, but it was! My cousin actually thinks it was better, too.

Fuck No! Faggot!
