Mid-Season Review — Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

The Good Wound

So I’ve finally gotten around to writing up my review of last night’s TSCC, episode 2.13 — “The Good Wound.”  The episode picks up mere hours after episode 2.12, “Earthlings Welcome Here,” ended.  We start off with both Sarah and Riley in different hospitals — Sarah being there because of a gun shot wound to her leg, and Riley because of a failed attempt at suicide.

There are cops outside Sarah’s room waiting for her to awake so they can question her over the man she’s recently killed.  And who should lo and behold and appear (as a figment of her imagination, of course)?  Kyle Reese (Jonathon Jackson returns in the role).  He repeats to her several lines fans of the franchise will recognize from T2 and they eventually escape.  The problem is, though, that the bullet hasn’t been removed from Sarah’s leg just yet.  To remedy this problem, Sarah kidnaps a young, female doctor and carries her to a hotel room to operate… more problems ensue, however.  John is left facing the consequences of bringing Riley to the hospital while Derek must find the warehouse where Sarah was shot and destroy the evidence.  And that’s, plus or minus, the mid-way point in the show — if you’d like to know more, well, just watch the show (Hulu is my personal favorite for Internet viewing).

I found the episode quite entertaining and as series creator Josh Friedman stated it would be, everything already feels more serialized.  There’s no beginning or end to the story, only an opening and a small resolution that, of course, only leads to another problem before the credits finally roll.  Suffice it say that I found this episode a fine mix, in terms of style and structure, of season one and two and on the whole it gave me a good feeling about the rest of the season to come.  (Oh, and there was also a pretty awesome Shirley Manson scene to check out as well in this episode).

Terminator

I won’t talk about the ratings, or at least go any further than say that they weren’t very good.  As of right now, a third season isn’t seeming too likely — some have even speculated the possibility of the rest of the season being pulled and aired at a later date.  I highly doubt this one, though.  There’s only eight episodes left and by the time anyone tries to rearrange the schedule again, there’d probably be less than handful.  So I think Fox will let the season play out — if nothing else, TSCC is probably the best lead in they’re going to find for Dollhouse, not to mention the fact that Fox has already devised the genius ploy of having Ms. Summer Glau and Ms. Eliza Dushku “host” the night (together!) as the two shows play through.

And that’s about as much speculation as I’m going to allow on this thing.  If the show is doomed, so be it — I’m still going to enjoy watching every last episode until it’s gone for good!  If it’s destined to become the next Firefly then there’s nothing I can do, really, than to thank my lucky stars I at least got two seasons (well, one and a half).

And if you’re into the genre and haven’t checked the show out yet, shame on you!

I’ve watched every episode this season, and I love it. I adored Friday’s episode, I thought it was all kinds of awesome, and is setting us up so very well for the way the rest of the season will flow. I can’t wait til next friday!! I do hope the ratings show better results, though I also think that the people who are watching the show aren’t being accounted for properly. I mean, me and a lot of my friends who watch just aren’t counted. But it’s nice to see someone who’s got a positive take on things. Thank you!

TSCC was very bad at the first episodes, but it never stoped getting better, and it would be a shame to end the show now,
