Is Twitter Deleting Your Tweets?

It’s so “magical” how I went from over 6,000 tweets on Twitter to just 400. My almost two-years-worth of tweets, gone in a split second. You may be a victim of this error as well. And to tell you the truth, I am NOT one bit happy about it.

Twitter needs to get their act together. This is highly unacceptable, among other things. They have a lack of security, and are very easy to attack, and have a large spam problem. Last week, they were hit with a DDoS attack from some guy on the other side of the planet. How pathetic is that?

Not to mention, their servers are always going down, “fail whales” pop up everywhere, and it’s just all bogus. They need to learn how to run a company, and a service better. If these errors persist, and are not fixed soon, I’m getting rid of the bird altogether. There are other forms of social networking on the internet; in fact, you are on one at this very moment.

In Twitter’s defense, it is very hard for any website to defend against a DDoS attack. There is almost nothing a company can do to prevent one. Also, your post brings up another issue: what to do to prevent your data from “falling out” of the cloud. Cloud computing inherently comes with risks, and Twitter hasn’t made any guarantees to retain your tweets indefinitely. The only solution I have to this problem is to back up all of your online activities. Here is a handy Lifehacker article on how to go about doing this:

I’m very sorry that this happened to you, and I understand your frustration.

Twitter is supposed to be about what you are doing NOW - not 2 years ago…

Or at least that’s how I understand the premise - as the site is (in MY opinion - as a non-user) pointless and inane. But I digress.

Is it possible that this is a NEW FEATURE - or some way for them to clear out all of the “clutter” since the site has grown FAR bigger then they ever anticipated?

Perhaps this is their “backup” plan - buying a whole bunch of new servers cost them big bucks, so they decided to clear out all the “obsolete” material instead.

After all, very few people care if you wore a green shirt (instead of the blue one you had on earlier) 6 months ago ;);)
