Thank you, world wide web. Best Buy reveals its plans to provide a free upgrade, starting June 26, to customers who purchase a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate, meaning customers who purchase Windows Vista Home Basic, get nothing but a pain-in-the-motherboard OS until they buy a copy of Windows 7.
See the whole email below. Also note the comment by a Best Buy employee, “This should make the Mac people jealous.” Not really. They fail to realize Mac users can install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. (image source: Engadget.com)

You weren’t very specific. Do you mean users who purchase a pc between now and the release of Windows 7 will get a free upgrade or all vista users? I’m assuming just those who purchase in the next few months but just want to be certain.

Hello Zachary,
Thank you for noticing my error :). They will start what they call a “Technology Guarantee,” which goes in affect June 26 until the release of Windows 7. It applies to anyone who purchases a brand new PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate between June 26 and October 22.
