Social Networking and why it’s important.

The Internet has changed the way we communicate with people in an amazing way. We went from sending messages via “snail mail”, to telephones, and so forth. Today, we use computers, game consoles, handheld devices and so much more at our disposal.
For instance, a major milestone was the invention of emailing, which rose up in the early 90’s. Soon after came Instant Messaging and chat rooms. Today we have things like Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, YouTube, MySpace, and much, much more.
Social networking is making its mark in history these days. In fact, it is progressing so fast, it is leaving the news media in the dust. Everyday people are reporting news faster than a whole news team.
For example, the Hudson River airplane incident; a passenger pulled out his cell phone device, took a picture via a built in camera, and posted it to Twitter within seconds. Hours later, the news media finally reports it, but people who use Twitter (like me), found out much faster than waiting on a news team to report it.
The newspaper companies are losing customers and revenue constantly at a growing rate, and are growing worried that they may go out of business. They advertise constantly on TV saying how people can buy special editions of different newspapers or constantly call households, hustling you to buy. It would be pointless these days to subscribe to a newspaper. You have the internet. You have Google. They are selling you something you already have.
Someday, they will stop the presses. For good.

I have noticed huge increases in traffic (although my traffic is insignificant to most) from simply, utilizing social networks like Myspace and Facebook. Things like commenting on friends’ status’ making broadcast messages when i upload a new song, or just adding “people you may know”. I actually drew upon this idea and created my own social network which is now linked to my domain, I don’t make huge chunks of cash but I have seen a large increase in my traffic brought on by my use of social networks… I like having my website open to others because of two things.
1. because it gives users the freedom to customize MY website to their liking.
2. Because it gives me more content from others utilizing my website.
all in all social networks are a major key in developing traffic for your website or blog..
