In the past, I have mentioned that I live in Allentown, Pennsylvania. To be a little bit more specific, I actually live in North Whitehall Township. There is a new park that is located about 1 mile from my house and about 5 out of 7 days a week, I go up there to take a walk. Ironically, I actually drive my car to get there because I live on a stretch of state highway, even though it is one lane in each direction, the speed limit is 45MPH, not exactly something that I want to walk on. This park has four baseball fields (two are older and two are newer), a soccer/lacrosse field, a basketball court, and a walking path that is about 3/4 long. I normally walk the path twice.
Anyway, today I got to the park at about 8:00pm and one of the new baseball fields had been vandalized. Someone (could have been a group of people) broke into the field’s utility box located behind the backstop and used the lime chalk and line mark to make a very disturbing symbol in the middle of the infield.
At the pitcher’s mound they made a Swastika. I couldn’t believe eyes. I immediately got on my cell phone, called my brother and asked him to look up the phone number for the closest location for the Pennsylvania State Police (a downside of living in a small township is that we don’t have our own police squad).
I called the state police and explained the situation. They informed me that since this wasn’t an emergency, I would have to wait a little before an officer would be on the scene. I understood and started continued my walk; which I had been doing while I was on the phone with them.
About 30 minutes later, a squad car pulled up, I got into the backseat (first time I was ever in a police car and I was a good distance away from the particular field), the two of us got out of the car, the officer looked at the utility box (which obviously had been tampered with), the officer took my information down, and that was it. Kind of what I expected but I wanted someone to know what had happened.
I really am disturbed by this event. Who would do such a thing? I know that I am stereotyping but this had to have been done by a group of kids. WWII was over 60+ years ago and in the middle of a youth baseball field a group of kids have the cojones to do such a thing in public. This/These person/people probably won’t be reading this but…
GET A LIFE!!!
