Save XP

Today I got an e-mail from InfoWorld about their "Save XP" campaign.

Dear "Save XP" petition participant —

Thank you for signing our "Save XP" petition. You’re getting this message because you told us you wanted updates on new developments in the "Save XP" campaign. Here’s what’s happening:

Close to 200,000 people have signed the petition since January 14. However, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer thinks we’re not serious about the Save XP movement, nor does he seem to take the people who signed it seriously. That’s where you come in. Help us meet our goal of 300,000 unique petition signatures by June 2008. Please ask your friends, family and colleagues to join the movement by signing up at www.savexp.com.

And show Mr. Ballmer that there’s a face behind each email address. How about uploading your own Save XP video plea to the InfoWorld section of FaceBook? You can also upload them directly to the InfoWorld site using our BrightCove player form. We’ll show off the funniest, most creative appeals to save XP on our "Save XP" video home page.

To stay on top of Windows-related developments, I’d also encourage you to sign up for our Enterprise Desktop newsletter. You can do that here.

Thank you again for helping making IT professionals’ voices heard. We promise to do our part to send the message to Redmond, loud and clear.

Best,

Galen Gruman

Since they have requested that I spread the word on this campaign, I figured that the best way to do this is by making a blog post.  So I am asking you, please sign up for this campaign and see if we, the Internet community, can have any effect on allowing Windows XP to still be through retail outlets and more importantly, through OEMs like Dell, HP, Acer, Gateway and IBM/Lenovo.

Where’s the evidence that 300,000 is the magic number? Is that what Ballmer said?

I’m not sure where InfoWorld got the number 300,000. But where you do a Google Search for there are 272 results. I just copied the body of the e-mail for the post after I read it.

Thanks for the comment NewJohnny and I hope that you keep reading.
