Some Big Technology News

In my opinion, the last couple of days had some pretty big technology news. Here are a couple of interesting posts I noticed on my favorite sites:
Engadget
- Sun looses ‘world’s fastest chip’ — the 1.4GHz Niagara 2: A single chip with eight-cores and 64 threads
- Hacking a CoinStar machine to bypass transaction fees: Go to a CoinStar location, drop in your coins, tell the machine that you want an iTunes gift card, and pull the LAN cable.
- Latest iPods to be flash-based, only up to 16G: If this rumor is correct, there won’t be any hard drive based iPods anymore which means less storage space.
- Microsoft drops price on Xbox 360 line — we’re stunned: This was probably the worst kept secret of the century.
- NES emulator for the iPhone: Awesome! You can play the old version of Mario Brothers on your iPhone.
- Our pal Fake Steve revealed — Daniel Lyons of Forbes: I only read Fake Steve’s blog a couple of times and, while it seemed to be accurately written like Steve himself would have, some of the posts didn’t make any sense.
- California official gives OK to voting systems that failed security audit: This just SCREAMS another Florida voting problem like in 2000; but I’m not bitter.
Gizmodo
- Microsoft Xbox 360 Price Cuts Officially Official: This was probably the worst kept secret of the century.
- iPhone NES Emulator Third Party App: Awesome! You can play the old version of Mario Brothers on your iPhone.
- Nintendo Patent Hints at Wii Portable: I’m not really surprised at this. I’m sure the majority of the gaming world assumed Nintendo was working on a new portable game system.
- .Mac Scheduled Downtime During Apple Event Tomorrow: While I don’t have a .Mac account, I might be purchasing it after the Apple press conference that has been scheduled for today.
- The Next-Gen iMac Mock-up: I hope the next iMac looks as sweet as the one in this picture.
- The faux Apple CEO gets a real job at Forbes: I only read Fake Steve’s blog a couple of times and, while it seemed to be accurately written like Steve himself would have, some of the posts didn’t make any sense.
- 2010 Olympics, Now With Hydrogen Buses: This is a really smart and environmental system for the Olympics in Vancouver.
Tomorrow I will probably have a post that is completely based on the Apple Press Conference which is being held today at 1PM Eastern Time.
