Twitter is amazing… or is it? Please email me

When starting out hardcore on this blog a month and a bit ago I was trying to find a couple of good sites to help with the networking aspect of the whole endeavor. I chose a few different options, one of them being twitter. I like the simplicity of the interface, and everyone and their dog seemed to be on there tweeting away.

I am slightly disappointed with the service however. Many people have written articles about their up time. That for some reason didn’t bother me as much as not receiving an email when a person starts to follow me.

In a serious effort to gain a following an build a community, those email notices become quite important. This allows me to see who is watching, what type of reader I am attracting, etc., etc.

So my vote is to work on that outbound email system. It is an invaluable tool for myself and I am sure other people in my boat.

I have a hard enough time just keeping up with myself

If you want to receive an email when a new person is following you, just check the box under Notice
New Follower Email when someone starts following me

I started following you because I’m way into tech even though I’m humbly inferior to you, Leo, Louderback, and others I follow to try to just hang in there info-wise. I like the service and have a lot of fun micro-blogging. I thought it was cool when you started following me, presumably either because you got that particular e-mail or you are set up to auto-follow followers.

My problem started 2 days ago when I couldn’t get to the home page to see everybody’s tweets, nor was I able to post. I could go to my webpenguin page and block spammers following me. Could go to your page and Leo’s and see if you guys were able to post. But if I want to post I have to use a 3rd party app. I’m an old gramma (formerly from Iowa!) who follows less than 2 dozen people - mostly tech people and a couple who started following me first. Can’t imagine I did anything to get suspended. OK, I’ll admit it! I have talked about my tomato garden! But here I am, now unable to post and trying to find anything from the tech people I’ve come to know and trust. Guess I’ll keep plodding!

In my previous post I mistakeningly thought Pirillo had written the article, but the points still apply even if I hadn’t finished my morning coffee yet. My bad! :-)

Hi Kim, I in fact do have that option enabled. As soon as I noticed that I wasn’t getting messages I went to verify that setting.

Hi Linda, I have answered your comment via email. I will post what I wrote here so that everyone can see the answer. And don’t worry about the mistaken identity, I am sure Chris won’t mind *wink* :)

“As for your problem, it seems very strange. It feels like they are experiencing some database corruption and that is causing us all to have different problems with the service. I would recommend that you try to submit a problem report with them. I did a little searching and I found that you can submit one online at this address: http://twitter.com/help/

I hope this helps you! And if you like what you see, spread the word to your friends.

Thanks for reading!”
