Strange Reason for XBox 360 Red Ring of Death

I recently had my XBox 360 get the dreaded Red Ring of Death aka RROD. I contacted Microsoft and they said that it was a hardware error and that they would fix it free of charge. I must say that made me pretty happy. I also got a free month of XBox Live Gold as well.

I have had my XBox back for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed something really strange.  I have gotten the RROD 3 times since I have had it back but the strange thing is, I can make it happen.

On my XBox power cord I have an adapter that changes it from a 3 prong plug to a 2 prong plug. My power cable is basically laying in the middle of the floor next to my entertainment center and if the XBox power cable comes unplugged, not all the way but right before it is about to power off it will Red Ring for some reason.

I’m not sure if Microsoft knows about this or not but I might email them to inform them. I was thinking, could this possibly be the reason why some people get the RROD?

When you attach a two pronged outlet thing you are essentially removing the ground from the xbox. It wouldn’t surprise me that this causes the red ring of death. Not having your xbox be grounded isn’t the smartest thing in the world.

I know a few people who also haev a 360 and theirs didn’t even come with a 3 prong plug.

Yes, that happens and is widely known. That’s the 4 Rings. It just means something isn’t plugged in all the way.

The 3 Rings is are the real Ring of Death where you’ll have to send it in to repair the Hardware Malfunction.

There’s also a 1 Ring and a 2 Ring which are for other reasons.

But if you must experience one, the 4 Rings are the ones you want b/c it’s easily fixed. Just plug whatever in all the way.

:)
