Dual Wallpapers on Multi Monitor Systems

One of the most annoying shortfalls on Windows XP/Vista for me is natively not being able to use two or more wallpapers on a multi-monitor system.   I can not stand seeing a single image twice, and am not a big fan of having to bring two images into photoshop to stitch and make sure their resolution match so they will spread across your desktop.

One of my favorite new programs that solves this problem is DisplayFusion from Binary Fortress Software.   Running the program, you can gram multiple images and bring them to the screen that you want.   No resizing and no stitching required.   It also integrates with Flicr, so you can quicly pull a photo you do not have on your computer or used your cell phone to take.   Best of all, this software is absolutly free.

This may make the job of dual monitors with different wall paper easier, but it is possible on any XP system without extra software, it also works on 2000, and should work on 98 and Vista as well.

I downloaded this, thinking it might be nice because changing twin wallpapers on a naked XP install is not hard but a multiple step process, and I’m all for ease of use.

Tried it 3 times, 3 times it errored out when trying to set the wallpaper on the 1st display - never made it to the second.

My system is not bleeding edge Athlon 64X2, 3GB memory, nVidia 5750 with 256 M memory - I have no problems with other software - I can only conclude this is not ready for prime time.

I am currently reading this article from home but considering it for my work computer which is running Windows Vista. I have a question for you, if I am running this software and I remotely connected to my dual monitor computer, what happens to the wallpaper? With my current configuration, both monitors have the same wallpaper and when I remote in I have no problems. I understand completely if you don’t know the answer to this question just figured I would ask it because it is a situation that a lot of users can experience.

dabrace,
This should not create any problem. I also access my dual monitor system remotely. You will only be able to see your main screen though, but this would be just like how you have already done this before. The program creates an image file that will work with your machine. Once you finish putting your new wallpaper up, you can close out of it. It will want to run nativaly in the backgroud, but you can right click on it in the taskbat and exit. It will remain closed until the next time you want to run it.

What Do You Think?
