Pros and Cons of owning Vista

I thought since I was on vacation and I didn’t have time to write any long posts I would at least post something. I thought I would post something that would raise a lot of conversation. So here it is. I would like you to leave your comments on what you think are the pros and cons of owning copy of Windows Vista and using it as your main operating system. Please leave comments on what you think about this.

I did try to use vista for a while. But it is strange, i don’t really know why. But it seens more boring than XP, more slow (and I don’t have an old machine) and looks like that you are in less control of the system.

Switched to Vista (on dual boot) two weeks ago.
Initial impressions:
Fast!!
And yes, super good interface.
Vista installed all the drivers for my Dell 6400 except for the RealTek audio which had issues (Vista already alerted me to it).
Dell had drivers ready so, everything was breezy.
Customizable to look and work like XP for those reluctant to move on.

Cons:
Might get bloated on more software installation.
Eats up, no wait, GOBBLES up space with all shadow copy, system restore features.
UAC was a major irritant until I disabled (am an advanced user)
Few niggles here and there, but I say it looks and works better than the initial release.
Price (am a university student, so I get a discounted price) but still costly!

I will wait for another couple of months before I fully move to Vista Ultimate full time.

In Octoner of 2007, I purchased a new Toshiba laptop with Windos Vista Basic. I immediateluy upgarded to Vista Ultimate. I have a laptop with with more than enough resources and guess what people I have no problems. I am what you would call an intermediate skilled user and use my notebook for work and ho0me. I read, with great interest, the comments of the techies that Vista is a poor product but the same peoploe said exactly the same thing with XP. Every day use has proven very stabile and reliable. My day does not start out trying to find the negatives of Vista- there is more to life than that. Actually, I find less problems with Vista Ultimate than I did with XP w SP3.. The geeks and techies are too f’ing negative. There is more top life than what they are doing. Get a life people.

Both I and my wife have new Dells with Vista. No particular problems.

I remember when XP came out. Everyone was like, “oh, it’s awful, I’m staying with 2000, etc, etc.” Didn’t happen once drivers were out.

But I don’t see any reason to upgrade to Vista if your XP machine is working well.

1 year. Reliable, trouble free. An improvement on XP

I have been running vista since its release on my homemade system. It was originally a XP system but has more than enough juice to handle vista so i went all out and got Ultimate as soon as it was released.

There were some growing pains getting used to the new features. And I have to admit that UAC is a pita sometimes, but oddly enough, I have left it on.

When it first came out, I was a little dissapointed that some of the third party companies (not microsoft) weren’t up to snuff on releasing drivers, but that can be attributed to faults on both sides.

Now though after it has been out for a while, I have had no issues that i couldn’t quickly resolve myself with no hassle.

Security is great coupled with windows live for virus protection. I do a lot of research and have hit sites that I knew were compromized and without fail i get notified of potential threats.

All OS’s have thier ups and downs. I am a gamer and sometimes i notice an impact on performance from time to time but it is related to my tune up settings, but I havent had near as many problems with Vista as i did with XP when xp first came out.

Dunno what else to say. Thumbs up.

I agree that if you are comfortable and happy with XP and all, don’t upgrade, but I will say that if you buy a new computer that comes pre-installed with Vista. Don’t knock it.. Take some time to learn about its new features. it is all there at your fingertips. And now there are pleanty of online and book resources to help you through some of the more common issues you may run in to with transition.

i recently had a major system crash using xp and viruses. after formating, vista which was the prior before xp was installed, when it was installed. . . the bus drivers, one other driver was missing among significant others. Pissed me off, why make an os with out drivers disk? i also have wind stream high speed broad band and it wont set it up due to the missing driver. i imagine i could find the drivers for vista on del. download them. the slowness is the last thing that really Pissed me off. it certainly is a learning curve, and im a hacker by trade. go figure.
