E-Mail:

Why Barack Obama Scares Me

I’ve been on this planet nearly thirty years and I’ve followed every presidential election since I can remember. I supported George H. W. Bush as a child because he was what the country needed to close out the Cold War. I supported and actually campaigned for Bill Clinton in the sixth grade on the premise that George H. W. Bush raised taxes when he campaigned on the premise he wouldn’t. I stood in an auditorium of my peers and spoke out for Bob Dole based on the fact that Bill Clinton was not what was morally right for the country (myself and a friend were booed out of that auditorium). I supported George W. Bush because Al Gore was not what the country needed in a time of great economic uncertainty that was apparent at the end of the Clinton administration. I then supported George W. Bush again for a myriad of issues to include John Kerry’s flip-flopping on the issues. I have now voted (absentee in the great state of Florida) for John McCain because, let’s face it folks, Barack Obama scares the life out of me.

Yes I agree

Does it occur to you that you haven’t explained WHY you’re scared?

Let me suggest that you take responsibility for your own fear instead of blaming it on Obama and figure out why you’ve allowed yourself to be reduced to fear and identify something substantive to be afraid of.

Absent that, maybe your fears are imaginary, or just the result of propaganda.

Me too : a guy that defines the only right change for the US as the change from Bush to himself is only a demagogue (and especially since he’s a very gifted demagogue).

He scares the bejeesus outa me too!!

I agree, he scares me too. I don’t want his kind of government. It has too much control already.

Amen to that brother! I for the life of me can’t understand how millions of people can possibly think Barack Obama is what our country needs.
I realize John McCain may not be the best choice either but at least he isn’t going to give our country away.
Thank God we have the Congress and Senate to watch over them. Then again, that may not be such a good thing.
Have you ever considered the idea of voting everyone out and starting all over?

such perspicacity in one so young should always be commended.

You didn’t say why he scares you. He gives me hope. Barack just might be able to get this country moving in the right direction.

McCain/Palin, now they scare the snot outta me. So angry and full of hate, they seem to bring out those qualities in many of their supporters.

I have been voting since George McGovern. I think even Tricky Dick Nixon would have cringed at some of the campaign tactics used by the GOP this year.

You are not alone my friend. When he said he wanted to “spread the wealth” during the last debate, my heart sank. I studied Karl Marx but never thought I would live to see it doctrinated in the United States. I dont go to work every day to give a portion of my pay to people who drink beer and watch Jerry Springer all day.

An opinion to be considered:

A serious comment by Bill Lear (Lear jet) a smart, successful business man and an Independent.

Most Americans are aware of Bill Lear, because of his Lear Jet business; however, he has accomplished much more, as you can see at this link: William P. Lear –

Britannica Online Encyclopedia William-P-Lear

His opinions are worth a read:

A Humble Plea to McCain and Obama Supporters:

Dear friends,

I am truly astonished by the ignorance Obama supporters have displayed in their quest to get someone - ANYONE - into the White House. Now, wait a minute. I can well understand your dislike or even hatred of our clown, GWB, but he is not the root cause of all of our problems. Our Congress is. And a change there would be welcomed by all. You ain’t gonna get it done with Obama. You gotta fire the whole damnable crooked Congress. (Read my book, ‘BERNIE’S WAR!’).

Perhaps I’m looking at all of this from a different perspective than you because my life experiences have been so different from yours. I’m
80-years old and have traveled the world where I’ve seen a great deal. I spent five years on active duty as a fighter pilot in the USAF and another seven years flying with the Air National Guard in California and Texas as well as a few years flying in the USAF Reserve. I spent three years on active duty in Germany flying Czech border patrol with ‘cold guns’ in aircraft inferior to the MIG during the Korean ‘Police Action’ when it was thought that Korea was a diversion for a Soviet invasion of Western Europe .

I lived abroad for a total of 28 years. Three years in Germany, twenty years in Switzerland and five years in Great Britain where I was based doing ’spook’ work for the U.S. behind the Iron Curtain before it fell. During that era of the Cold War I ventured to Moscow, Prague, Warsaw, Bucharest, Peshawar, Pakistan and Bulgaria posing as a Swiss French-speaking arms dealer purchasing weapons we surreptitiously supplied to the Afghani Mujahedeen in their successful fight against the Soviets - all of which came back to haunt us. I’ve been there and done that and have had close associations with top government people in Germany , the Netherlands and Great Britain. I’ve had more foreign affair experience than Obama could ever dream of and, yet, wouldn’t have the temerity to deign myself ‘Presidential’ material; although I feel eminently more qualified to judge who would NOT be best for our country. My long-time world experience should count for something in my plea to you to abandon this miscreant flake. You will only be doing yourself and our country an enormous disservice if you persist in your support of this flash-in-the-pan opportunist. On this, you MUST trust me.

I’ve associated closely with European royalty and African politicians. I’ve traveled to the Far East to observe their cultures. My point is that Obama, although formally well educated and a brilliant orator, is a neophyte when it comes to understanding the world and is uniquely unqualified for the job as President of these great United States . His knowledge of economics is nil and his tax proposals absurd and life-threatening to the U.S. not only in economic terms but in preserving our national security as well. I don’t want a ‘citizen of the world’ to be President, I want a citizen of the good old USA to be President. Screw the rest of the world as they have well and truly screwed us. The time has come for us to awaken and start looking after ourselves. Now THAT would be CHANGE if that’s what you’re looking for.

While McCain has abstained from playing ‘the race-card’, Obama is playing it to the hilt even though he’s technically not an African-American. To qualify for this distinction you must be at least one-sixth black. Obama is only one-eighth. His father would be, as he was one-sixth. No, Obama is more Muslim than black yet he trades on his blackness.

The larger question I have about him is that we really don’t know much about him other than what HE tells us, what we read on blogs and from some serious non-partisan investigators whose factual reports are, unfortunately, generally ignored and which receive precious little media exposure.

I, as a registered Independent, a military veteran and a patriot, beseech you to put aside party considerations and vote for the lesser of the two evils. Yes, I am NOT a McCain supporter, but he is, at least, not a flake, doesn’t carry Muslim baggage and is a PROVEN hero and patriot WITH experience. It’s not a party issue. It’s all about electing the best we can trust with what we’ve got to work with. Mr. Obama is NOT that guy.

Please, please rethink your voting position. Thanks for reading my innermost thoughts. I care about all of you, but I care more about our country. Please help me to do both.

Why does Obama “scare the life out of” you? That is quite a statement to make with no supporting comments.

So basically you’ve spoken out against almost every president you’ve earlier supported. Why should we think you’re not wrong again?

I wholehartedly agree with Chris. I have lived on this planet (this time so far) for just short of 65 years. I served in the military under President Kennedy and was proud to do so. I couldn’t vote for him because I was only 17 at the time. We as a country have had our ups and downs but we cannot complain about being poor. Even those who are homeless. They DO have places to go for shelter and food. Many people in the world don’t! We are the richest nation on this earth and SHARE that wealth with many nations and many peoples. I have often wondered how bad we could have been under the leadership of Al Gore during that time of such stress in 2001. Yes, President Bush has made some mistakes, but he has been a strong leader for the most part. The choice he made, along with almost ALL of the House and Senate, entering into the Iraq War was the right one in the long run. Not in the popular sense, but correct overall. The bad choice was underestimating “who” we were and are fighting and not sending in enough manpower (not a gender statement) to do the job completely. We now need to finish the job and turn Iraq back to their people and go on after the bad guys in Afganistan. Now, as far as our next president, this country cannot afford Obama! Period! He is a charlatan and a liar. That we don’t need in Washington. We have far too many of that type there now. I too have voted absentee too, in the State of Ohio, because Obama scares the hell out of me. All you have to do is look at what has become of our “trusted” media. They are such a sad lot, to sell themselves (their credibility) for a man juch as Obama should be a crime!

Barack does not scare me as much as McCain does. Why is because McCain will be fortunate to live his full term so that would leave Palin to run this country. THAT SCARES ME!!! She has no clue on how to run this country and would be an insult to the rest of the American women. You’re comparing Obama that graduated top honors at a University with McCain who graduated from the Navy academy on the bottom of his list. For VP’s god forbid if something happened to Obama, Biden is 100 times more qualified than Palin!

This piece by Mr. Short is typical Republican talking points that have been circulating for years now. He could have used about 6-8 bullets instead of the narrative. Actually only one bullet… “I’m scared.”

Nothing new and all baloney or pure opinion and no substance. Want an even scarier thought? Hot headed McCain during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kabloom…

You want Mr. John McCain Bush? Lets see under Bush we have an economy that may not recover for years. Lets see under Gore the economy would not be as strong as it was under Clinton, however it would be stable and growing. Lets see under Gore the spying on Americans would not be anywhere near as high as it is under Bush. Let see under Gore we would not have stretched our military so thin that most Americans believe that not one of the three campaigns in the middle east can be won by us. Now we have McCain who want to buy up the outstanding house mortgages at full value instead of for what is still owed on the loans which would reward the banks for shady lending. Now we have McCain who still believes in the trickle down theory which is reward the rich and it should trickle down to the masses. Like it or not our economy is a lot simpler than most people think. It operates from the bottom up. when the little guy has money to spend over and above what it takes to just survive it usually gets put right back it to the market place via the little guy buying extras and or investing in the market or his/her future. these extras equate to a fatter bottom line for companies. this equates to a larger tax base for our various programs. What the Republican party does not tell people is the fact that if all companies paid their fair share of taxes we would never have a tax shortfall. What the Republican party does not tell people the is reason for having to tighten the budget every year is because the little guy who is really keeping this country running because of his/hers taxes makes less and less each year equating to less and less taxes paid each year. We as a people and a nation can not afford another Reagan / Bush in our White House. As far as Reagan is concerned he had nothing to do with the fall of the Soviet Union the Pope did that. Reagan just took credit. It is pretty sad when you have a terrorist leader tell us that he does not have a problem with us as a people just with our current government. I personally believe that if Gore would have been in the White House instead of Bush there is a very good chance that 9/11 would not have happened. And you want another Republican it that Office.

First, as a critique of your writing, you don’t answer the statement in your title.

Second, can you see that every one of your choices was based on poor reasoning? ["Clinton was not morally right for the country" - If you need a President to be the arbiter of morals, or somehow steer your moral compass, you need to seriously re-evaluate your education. Who cares that Bill Clinton received oral sex? He did so many other things that were in the public good - not the least of which was stemming the tide of a runaway national debt started by Bonzo and Bush 41 - something few remember about Reagan is that he was so busy cutting taxes, that the average boob on the street never took notice that he was spending like no other president in history. That's why Bush 41 had to raise some taxes. Bill Clinton was never found to have lied to the country on anything other than his own personal life - something that did not interest me, nor should it interest anyone else. Lest you say that it simply was not found out - I doubt that, after all the hunting that the Republican hate machine did, Bill could have hidden an extra piece of a Big Mac from their searching]

If you live in Florida, you should see that McCain is exactly the wrong choice for you, based on his voting record, and general agreement with Bush 43.

Unless you reside in Palm Beach, own your own home outright, own your own company, and make a salary in the high 6 figures, you are voting against your own benefit.

Hell no!! Obama doesn’t scare me. It’s the people like your writer who put the fear of God in me, with their half-baked ideas and their total fear of radical change which this country needs so desperately. Time to wake up and smell the coffee people! OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW! I back the senator from Illinois totally and unequivacolly and may God protect and speed him on his way.

Barack Obama Scares the hell out of me also, as does his wife, which I think she will have a big negative impact on his office. I think if he is voted in, NO military experience what-so-ever that the Vets will suffer. Also our military will get weaker, therefor our “Greatest, Strongest Nation on Earth” may become a pastense. On the other hand I am Voting for John McCain because I was to maintain our country to remain the Greatest & Stongest. I believe the Mcain/Palin Ticket has high values for this country, and let them bomb an Embassy, sink one of our ships or fly an airplane into one of our buildings and I bet there will be Hell to pay. And one Last thought, I think CLinton was a Jerk who uses people, and Bush has made the right move going over there, if for nothing else, saving the people from a Meanass dictator.

Something that very few people seen to know about Obama: he voted more than once (as an Ill Senator) to keep (yes, KEEP) infanticide legal, it the infant is born alive as a result of a botched abortion.
That’s right: Obama voted for INFANTICIDE!
Why? To advance his extreme abortion agenda; he said the bill he voted against might undermine Roe v Wade. Even after the bill was altered to match the one passed by the US Congress, he still voted against it.
This man wants to be President? And others think he should be President? I don’t get it.
Biden said last weekend that Obama would be “tested”, and that hois response would seem to be wrong, but that we should trust him (did Obama and Biden discuss this? Have they already decided what action to take?). So, if China decides to invade Taiwan, what would this ‘wrong seeming’ action be? How about if Iran invades Israel? Or N. Korea invades S. Korea? What action would Obama take that would appear wrong? Given Obama’s predilection for talk (without preconditions, no less) over action, one must wonder if the action taken would be NO action.
Obama has no foreign policy experience at all, and has had no time in the Senate to acquire any network of advisers. How could he possibly know which advice (assuming he gets advisers who don’t all give the exact same advice) to follow? He has absolutely no experience to guide him at all.
How can Obama possibly fill the role of President?
And Biden? He’s the archetype of Beltway politics. How is this “change”?
And what, exactly, is “change”? I can certainly change my underwear, but it I change to the underwear I wore two days ago, without washing it first, what good is that? It’s “change”, though, right?
BHO TAO (Barrack H. Obama, The Annointed One) truly frightens me, too.

And Sarha Palin scares the life out of me. So what else is new in the world politics. There always will be a politician that scares people, period. For you it is Obama; for me it is Palin.

I agree he scares me a lot as well. I just don’t see it in the cards for a McCain win. In a way I don’t want McCain to win because i don’t want to pay taxes on my Health Insurance, but that is the only issue that I have with him.

With Obama I have many issues. I don’t want this country to become Socialistic. I don’t want to support people who do nothing for themselves. I have no desire for Illegal Aliens to become citizens without going through the proper channels (just like so many others have already done).

A shallow, fear based, right-wing propaganda driven statement that says more about this person’s lack of objective judgment than it says about any of the politicians mentioned. Such people can be easily manipulated by sound bites and innuendo, and the right-wing loves them. People like this are easily convinced to vote against their own best interests. I heard a good example the other day, a union leader who is voting for McCain even though McCain has voted against union interests over a hundred times. Or a military veteran who is voting for McCain even though McCain has a lousy record of support for veterans issues. Now, one might think these people are responding to a higher calling, but the reasons I usually hear are basal, propaganda driven drivel.

Why?

The title of the post is Why Barack Obama Scares Me yet all that you say is who you supposed in the past. You end the post by repeating the title.

So… any actual reasons?

Can you say Socialism? That’s where the country is headed under Obama. That should scare us all, Dems and GOP.

Please think my fellow americans. The greatest scare is the present adnmin and the continual war mongering. There is no way that barack will continue the senseless bloodshed which is the domain of the iragis and the Afganistanjs. I d not believe we have the solution and that we have to let the nations fight thie own battles with our support as to weapons and schools,, and other

I am always amazed how, including myself, we always find someone else to blame. A lot of this financial mess is our fault. We want everything and we want it now, finance up the gulp.. The day of reckoning ALWAYS comes. Remember the rainy day?
This Obama is the ANTI Christ to me. So to say he scares me just doesn’t make it strong enough for me. Just wait and see, we’ll be worst off 4 years from now if he makes it to the Whitehouse!

Are you freaking kidding? Finally I’m motivated enough to unsubscribe from this feed.

In the future keep your FUD to your cronies. It just makes you look small-minded and ignorant.

No, Mr. Obama does not scare me. I own too many guns for Mr. Obama to scare me.

This, however, should scare you and I hope you remember that you were warned:

“When your government finally succeeds in outlawing your guns, only the governments and the outlaws will have the guns.”

I’m not an american, I don’t wish to live there, and I can’ t vote, yet we follow your election in CNN like it is our own as its result would affect the rest of the world.

Early 2000, my country voted a president who had no experience all for the sake of change. Sure enough, he let his advisors/cronies/family did the decisions for him, then later took turns taking advantage of his position. He got ousted through a People Power before his term was over due to corruption and efficiency.

It’s why I think Obama is scary, I don’t want that to happen in your country.

As far as the economy under George Bush, It was pretty healthy………………………………..UNTIL the Democrats took control of Congress. What have they done? Zip,zero, nada, nothing except spew their we need more money to fix things agenda. AND it was the Republicans that tried to warn about Fannie May & Freddie Mac in 2004, but good ol Dems like Barney Frank said don’t worry….nothings wrong. And by the way, while this was going on Frank was doling out funds to FM/FM while living with one of the Execs of FM/FM as his live in boyfriend. Repubs aren’t blameless, but Dems are nothing but trouble.

RE: spreading the wealth that a small minority are ’scared’ about; how about corporate welfare, farm subsidies, bailouts, emergency rooms (loss leaders in almost every hospital)…?

These so-called scared people respond like attack dogs when one bumper sticker slogan gets their saliva dripping and their teeth bared. They are scared because they don’t drill down and educate themselves. They actually think their source of information is correct. Pure unadulterated ignorance.

Again, the fear factor was used and press was generated. Two things that make the news. The cute and cuddly pet and the nasty ready to strike animal. This is why any ‘base’ of any party react. Because they are scared already. All it takes is one button pushed and off they go salivating then attacking.

Curb your animal impulses people. Our country will be better for it.

Both parties scare me, so basically it’s a choice between which one scares me less?

Lessee, between a possible demagogue and a second in command who doesn’t have enough of a handle on highschool civics to understand separation of powers and was voted in highschool class as most likely to push the big red button?

Oy!!!!

You and about several million others keep ranting about how Obama scares you and each time you back your answer up with about 0% of why.
What, his Dad was a Muslim? His mother a Christian . Oh and I suppose his affiliation with Ayers makes you uncomfortable? Again the comments but not a word about the fact that this issue is so old and McCain used it because he has 0 credibility and a running mate that spends more on clothing ( paid for by, you guessed it , by Alaska’s own) than most people make in a year.
She is also now being tried for ethics breaches of law and use of tax payers money. Not mention that if McCain dies ( and he sure looks close to it already) this pillar of obscure, dirty politics and so little experience as to be a sad joke would be President. I know I’m not impressed or confident. Now that does scare me.
I have watched the candidates and been extremely active in campaigning for Obama because like it or not he is the only one I would trust and the only one who has kept to not using the type of political posturing and scare tactics that the McCain not unlike the race by the evil twins Bush and Chaney carried on. McCain voted 90%. 90% in favor of Bush’s twisted plans. Bombing Hussein and Iraq when it was the Saudi people’s that were in the planes that killed thousands of our people. To my way of thinking and that of the other people who actually studied this God forsaken war knew this from the onset but did anyone care that this happened. Do you know that Bush’s Father the ex President is on the board of directors of Saudi affairs meaning oil, gas and of course the get out of jail cards he and GW used to do their slight of hand to direct people away from Saudi Arabia and to Iraq. Oh and the coolest part of your candidates thinking is that we should spend all the time we need to get the task done, so to speak. What. he didn’t think Vietnam was bad enough he wants others to suffer as he did over thirty years ago?
Sorry I have no use for a person that still uses his long ago past as a platform to push his insane vision of what this latest fiasco that is Iraq is so obviously about. For the love of Mike the Iraqi Government itself wants us out. They are sick of dying for a man that has not given them any reason to keep our troops there and not unlike Vietnam this country will go whatever direction they want when we are gone. Then they can see how very much worse life can be when we do their bidding but the message remains the same, leave now so we can run our own country and oil reserves that Bush so desperately wants and is still there for just that reason. Sick isn’t it. All those lives for a fuel we could dump tomorrow should we just convert to solar, hydrogen and electric cars although hydrogen is the only truly free from fossil fuel we have and it is the most abundant resource we have and one that we wont run out of or destroy the ecology with.
There are far too many reasons to stay away from the Republican party between scandals, lies. loss of our own freedoms, spying on us to satisfy some twisted reasoning that Bush and Chaney”s own people, you , me and the other over a million people Bush holds in question because of something they said or he thinks they did. This is knowledge easily obtained and should be enough for anyone to see the Party and McCain’s ticket are badly flawed and worse, out of control. But be scared of Obama because he wants to help me and others like me (and you) that have lost or been held somehow responsible for the problems in this country . And he was prepubescent when he wore the garb of a Muslim but he became a Christian when he was old enough to make up his own mind. Ayers was nearly forty years ago and he was in the underground for only eight months that realized his error but we should be scared of Obama because he has a life long friend that now like Obama tries to give back to the people of this country each chance they get. If it were otherwise and there were actual valid reasons to fear Obama this sixty year old would jump at eh other side without hesitation but that is not the case and you and the rest of McCain’s people need to get your facts, logic and truth together before throwing rocks at the windows of those you want to defend. I could understand your reasoning but I’m afraid without giving a reason especially in light of the deplorable state this country is in because of McCain’s buddies who screwed up so badly and have driven this country to the brink of financial ruin while doing little but throw more money into his failed attempt to to rectify a state brought on by himself. To clean up his father’s mess left by leaving without doing what is happening right now and should not be and is because of Junior’s desire to make better what should have been settled so very long ago.
Yep Obama is scary? Bush is power crazy and McCain has pledged to continue. more of the same with a vice president that has no right based on experience to be in office in the first place. A blunder I’m sure he would like to go back and fix. That’s what makes me amazed by anyone who has bought into this McCain flawed campaign and the Republican destruction of our economic life’s blood. No I;m not afraid of Obama. I am however, based on past experience and the lies now being used to try to belittle and derail Obama, very worried and afraid that McCain and Palin might have a glimmer of hope that they might be elected.

I think if Obama is elected, we can all kiss our paychecks good-bye.

Currently with either one, our paychecks are toast. Pick your poison.

I AM WITH YOU WHO THINK OBAMA IS SO SCARY HIS RADICAL THINKING ON ABORTION, HIS WANTING TO TAKE PEOOPLES GUNS AWAY, PEOPLE LIKE MY SISTER WHO THINK HE IS SOME KIND OF MESSIAH THAT IS GOING TO SAVE
ALL OF US FROM DUME HE’S STUPID MOVE IN WHO HE CHOSE FOR CHIEF OF STAFF A REAL RADICAL
