Google Building New Datacenter in Lenoir, NC

Good news for the Unifour area of North Carolina (where I lived three years of my early adult life), Google is building a 210 job, $600 million dollar datacenter to help bolster its online offerings.
Google Taps North Carolina for New Datacenter Site (E-Commerce Times):
Google plans to build a new, US$600 million datacenter in North Carolina [...]

Torvalds: “Vista Over-Hyped”, Download Your Copy of Vista from Microsoft

Two interesting tidbits this morning regarding Linus Torvalds and Microsoft allowing Vista downloads.
The first one I like the most because it is so blatantly obvious, Windows Vista “over-hyped”: Torvalds (Linux World):

With the imminent release of Windows Vista to consumers this month, Linus Torvalds, the father of Linux, has claimed Microsoft’s latest desktop effort is over-hyped [...]

IE Unsecure for Over 9 Months in 2006, Firefox, Nine Days

Most of us probably knew this already but Internet Explorer (IE) is one of the most unsecured browsers on the planet. Last year alone, it was unsecure for 284 according to a Washington Post article by Brian Krebs.
Internet Explorer Unsafe for 284 Days in 2006 (Washington Post):
Security Fix spent the past several weeks compiling [...]

Is Anyone Else as Frustrated With MovableType?

For years I have used Movable Type. It’s been a very good system to me however, I have some serious issues as of late with them (and by late I mean the past two years). There are really three big issues:

Security (lack of security, need for patches, etc.)
Inability to Upgrade (horrendous documentation on [...]

Linux Distribution Chooser

I’m not sure how diverse this tool is but it’s fairly nifty in my book; the Linux Distribution Chooser. It feeds you so simple questions and gives you some suggestions. I’m going to nab a few live CDs and see if they meet my requirements in a Linux distribution.
UPDATE 19 Jan 2007:  Matt [...]

Nero Vision Express and Sony Vegas: Tag Teaming the dvr-ms Format

For quite some time now I’ve been trying to take Windows Media Center content and pair it down, edit it, or make it more suitable for use on DVDs (the DVD burning function in Windows Media Center has NEVER worked for me). Since a few weeks ago I’ve been doing my video editing with [...]

Firefox 2: Slower than Predecessor

I upgraded to Firefox 2 the day it came out and I’m almost wishing I didn’t. Of course, the alternative (Internet Explorer 7) has to be the worst browser ever made (at least as far as the GUI goes). I’ve used Opera and for whatever reason can’t stand it so here I am [...]

Brr…

I’m not built for this:

It is so cold here in Colorado that it’s like getting slapped in the face every time you walk outside.  It’s like that blistering heat you get in the Middle East when you open a door and WHAM! you realize you just walked out on to the face of the sun.  [...]

The Chris Short Nexus…

I’ve decided to stop managing one of the many MovableType blogs that I have had for a few years now, chrisshort.net. It’s been a fairly dead site for a while now given the fact that Six Apart has made upgrading software such a horrendous pain. After the long overdue decision was made to [...]
