Google Building New Datacenter in Lenoir, NC

Good news for the Unifour area of North Carolina (where I lived three years of my early adult life), Google is building a 210 job, $600 million dollar datacenter to help bolster its online offerings.
Google Taps North Carolina for New Datacenter Site (E-Commerce Times):
Google plans to build a new, US$600 million datacenter in North Carolina designed to help support its online operations, the company announced Friday.
The site, to be located in the city of Lenoir, is expected to create about 210 jobs over time. North Carolina awarded Google a 12-year job development investment grant with incentives of about $4.8 million. The North Carolina Department of Commerce estimates the project will bring the state a cumulative gross value of about $1 billion and a cumulative net revenue increase of $37 million.

“The datacenter we’re planning to build in Lenoir will help support continued growth in our online services,” said Lloyd Taylor, Google’s director of global operations. “We look forward to joining the local community and are grateful for the support from the state and local governments throughout our evaluation process.”
Google’s datacenters are where its search results pages are generated, and where users’ online queries are answered, so capacity is essential for serving its users, Barry Schnitt, a spokesperson for the company told the E-Commerce Times.
While it is still in the very early planning stages, Google’s goal is for the datacenter to be operational in the next 12 to 18 months, he added. Between 75 and 125 people will be hired initially, with expansions creating more jobs over time, Schnitt said.

“North Carolina is a desirable area because costs and wages are lower, yet they have a base of skilled, technologically savvy employees they can draw from,” Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence, told the E-Commerce Times.
When I was in my senior year of high school in North Carolina I worked for an Internet Service Provider in Hickory, NC. The technology industry was booming in that region with four local ISPs grappling for more customers, Alcatel producing their products like no tomorrow, and Siecor was pumping out miles and miles of new fiber optic cabling for its customers. Then the dot-com bubble burst came and almost as quickly as those major businesses had grown they fizzled.
I for one can attest to the severe hurt the loss of the furniture and textile industry has had on that area of North Carolina. I graduated from Hickory High School mere minutes away from Lenoir, North Carolina where a Boyles furniture manufacturing facility now sits dormant right off of Highway 321. Not too long after the technology companies left the region, the archaic North Carolina furniture manufacturing industry started to tank. Companies were losing money year after year and their employee wages were still increasing and bonuses were still being handed out. Bad business practices affected the textile industry as well and many companies that were household names in North and South Carolina closed up shop as well.
The news of Google setting up shop in the region is very good. A new, more stable technology boom is exactly what that region needs. A major blue chip tech leader will significantly help North Carolina highlight what the region has to offer as far as infrastructure and work force.

I am really excited about Google coming this way. I live in Statesville, N.C. I am very familiar with Google because I am listed on there with my website, articles I have written, reviews of my book titled, Living Nightmares of Abuse.
I work a full time job in merchandising and am currently writing my second book, a fiction fantasy.
I also am quite familiar with computers and graduated from in 2004 with a Office System Tech. certicate. Since then, have learned a great deal on my own with computers.
I am interested in submiting a resume for a chance to be employed by Google. Could you send me information where I could send a resume?
Sincerely, Phyllis Benton

you can go to www.google.com/jobs and choose all us locations then Lenoir. The only jobs being advertised are the facilities and management positions. I heard that the other tech positions will not be listed until mid to end of August.
