Interview with Peccaui of The New Gamer (Part 1)

Carri and I bought Aubree a Nintendo Gamecube Console - Limited Edition Platinum this weekend. We came to the decision to do this because Aubree has been asking to play video games with us and we just don’t have any real “kid” games. We also want her to start embracing technology and this is a good start in my opinion (it’s how I started). So instead of tossing the old Super Nintendo in her room we decided to just drop the money on a more recent and still supported system.

I haven’t been keeping up with the Nintendo Gamecube at all since its release so I had some questions about it and its associated technologies. To answer these questions in turned to none other than Peccaui of The New Gamer who happens to be a huge Nintendo Gamecube buff.

The questions I was asking Peccaui were fairly common and not intended to be an interview but eventually turned into some great interview material.

Chris: So I bought my kid a GameCube this weekend.

Peccaui: Cool. I dig the Gamecube.

Chris:She has been wanting to play video games with my wife and I so my wife had the idea of giving her the Super Nintendo. I decided that would not be a great idea due to the lack of games, so I figured the best game system for her on her TV in her room would be the Nintendo Gamecube. Now I own all 3 consoles.

Peccaui: Funny that you mention that as I just bought myself an Xbox this weekend so I have all three as well!

Chris: Nice… I can’t say I’m impressed with the game selection for the Nintendo Gamecube but for a three year old it works well. Plus it’s a good starter system for her.

Peccaui: Bah, there are great games for the Gamecube and some great ones coming out. Unfortunately, not until this winter but they’re coming! Viewtiful Joe, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime - those are some of the best games I’ve ever played.

Chris: I was talking overall selection. Not the quality of that selection.

Peccaui: Ah… Yeah, third parties have been really, really, really damn dumb with their support, or lack thereof, for the Gamecube.

Like the sequel to Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters. It sold four times as many copies on the Gamecube than any other system, but yet the sequel is for PS2 and Xbox online.

Chris: That’s retarded.

Peccaui: Yeah. But for some reason developers see the Nintendo Gamecube as a cursed console or something. Ah well. At least Nintendo always pulls through with the good first party games.

Did you get a Wavebird?

Chris: Wavebird?

Peccaui: It’s the best wireless controller ever, hands down. It sounds superfluous, but after playing with it you never want to play with another ‘wired’ controller.

Chris: Hmm… I got the Nintendo wireless controller for the Gamecube.

Is the Wavebird made by Nintendo?

Peccaui: Yup!

After Peccaui showed me a link to the Wavebird we determined I made a great decision by getting two of them.

Part two of this interview with Peccaui of The New Gamer will be released tomorrow morning and will delve into more of the hardware associated with the Nintendo Gamecube.
