I found a rather interesting article explaining the problems that the QWERTY keyboard has and its shortcomings. The article also explains where the QWERTY came from and why we stick to it instead of going to the more practical Dvorak design, which, apparently, is designed with speed and ease in mind. The article takes into account studies done that looks at speed vs accuracy, the placement of keys, taking into account the frequency which certain letters are used in the English language and strain on the hands and fingers. It’s a rather long read but very interesting, I recommend it.

Wow - and I thought it was going to be difficult to go from the generic keyboard to an ergonomic one
