Is Vista really That Bad?

  • No Related Post

Personally, I like Windows Vista, I really do.  I purchased a laptop that had it pre-installed and I have not had any problems at all.  It seems fast enough, the compatibility problem isn’t that big of an issue yet, as most hardware manufacturers now have drivers for it.

A lot of people complain about Vista, some are downright hateful to it.  I never understood why people make such a big deal about things they don’t like, especially geeks when it comes to software/hardware.  You hear it all the time.  “Vista Sucks!”, “I hate the Wii.”, “If you have the XBox 360 you suck.”, etc.  People have a very strong desire to express their feelings.  Rarely though are they able to give subjective, technical or arguable reasons why they feel the way they do.

Some of these people have never even tried the thing they are putting down.  It seems people just assume something is bad because others say it is or they have had one negative experience with the manufacturer.  Let’s take Vista for example.  Ask 100 people if they like Vista and I bet the vast majority will say they don’t like it.  Why?  Because of the negative media?  Because they don’t like Microsoft?  Are they jealous of Bill Gates’ success?  Who knows.  Personally, I like to try something before I make my opinion, and even then, I am open to others’ thoughts.  Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean they are stupid, wrong, or that they “suck”.   With some people, even after they do try it and decide they like it, they will not admit they have changed their mind, thinking that somehow that makes them less of a person.

Case in point.  I found an experiment that Microsoft sponsored.  They took 100 people and showed them a “new” operating system named “Mojave”.  90% of the people who tried it gave positive feedback, with comments like “Wow” and “This is great!”.  They were then told that the operating system was actually MS Vista.

So, do you hate Vista?  If so, WHY?  I don’t want reasons like “Microsoft Sucks”,  give me good reasons, try to change my mind.

I have installed vista on my MacBook Pro and I have used it computers I have had to fix.

But why do I dislike Vista?

Well I would have to say I don’t like using it everything is annoying to get to (ie, properties of the network devices) I really don’t like the areo interface but thats just me, I don’t like the noises it makes and what made me change back to xp was that the system kept crashing and I just didn’t enjoy using it.

I think that is the biggest point “i didn’t enjoy using it” I don’t know if it was the noises or the areo design or how things were so different to xp but I didn’t enjoy using it.

Like i said at the top I installed it on my MacBook Pro so that means I have OSX but at the time when I installed vista I wasn’t really a big fan of OSX but my dad brought me the MacBook Pro. But then I started using OSX to try some apps and now im a soild user of osx and I have win xp setup using a dual boot just for games.

Well, I don’t hate vista, but when I got it it caused some problems. One day I turned on my computer, and, like it was taunging me, a big black screen came up with white letters spelling “operating system not found”. I switched back to XP and have never had a problem. Still…. I really want to re-install vista because I’m all about how things look and vista looks reeeeeaaaaly niiice :D I loved watching NASA TV in the little widgets bar. I’m just a little concerned that Microsoft Office 2003 might not run on it, but maybe there is something I can download that will help. I don’t hate Vista, but if I did it would be because of the way it killed itself and brought my whole computer down with it. :)

I have Vista Ultimate on my machine and love it to death. I am glad to see Microsoft move to something new and exciting. I am tired of the Vista haters too. I for one remember the days of Windows XP when people said it was a horrible OS…and what 6 or 7 years later they would rather run XP than Vista…Im confused? Every OS has issues, even OSX…its trial and error, nobody (programmers) are perfect…were human!

Most of the features of Vista are a needed improvement over XP, UAC, Network Security, GUI interface, Flip 3D etc. These are key features XP never had, and thats what makes Vista that much more likeable to me. UAC for one is probably the best thing Microsoft has done…I know its saved my ass a few times when Im not sure if a file or program has a virus….

All in all I think people should give it a try, don’t hate it without trying it.

Chris personally i like vista and i agree on the fact that people just say things because of their experience with the manufacture or the the things they have heard from other people. I bet if 100 people actually used vista and got to know the work around the system around 90 people would they would say thats its easier to get around and its nicer. I say 90 because not all people would become accustom to using the operating system and stick to the one they use all the time, and the others are probably not computer people. What i mean by computer people is that their are people that get to understand the operating system and get an idea on how it works instead of people who expect it to just work! The graphics and visual effects look better and etc… But the graphics and visual effects are expected from a new operating system in order from current one.

What good if a new operating system that looked the same as the current one have an impact on people? Unless its has way cool features and new options its not going to have an impact on people!

One feature i totally find cool and that i love is the Speech recognition program that comes with it! With training and more use it because more understanding of how you talk and it works great! I am able to search, write letters, open\close stuff without touching my mouse and keyboard! It even comes with grid sectors so you can select any where on the screen and perform mouse options by saying the number of the sector and then it will get smaller until you have the desired spot you want to perform a task to with the mouse!

Vista yes does require more and some people cant run it because of their computer specs now. Laptops that are sold have vista on it cant run it correctly because the specs were too low. I’m not saying all but they actually sell them with less then meets vista’s requirements! My dad had to roll back a set of laptops for a business because they were bought with pre- installed vista and the laptop didn’t meet the specs to xp…

This may not be the problem now because technology is getting better and cheaper quick. But it was not so long ago.

One problem i have encountered with vista that i am sad about because i am a gamer is that not all games are compatible. Its really a puzzle because this game will run on it and this one wont. Most of the games do though which is good but some don’t which is a disappointment! So looking up on the internet if its compatible is really helpful!

My advice for people is to stick with xp. Their isn’t that great of a jump between xp and vista other then visual effects and some features. xp is great for business and networking as it is! Vista also takes out a lot of cpu power for those gamers out their! So if u do decide get vista for gaming have 2 gb of RAM a 512 mb video card around 4 gh of cpu a 700 watt power supply and you will be one of the many gamers out their with a good computer that will last you! Vista takes a good 30 gb out of your Hard Drive so prepare for that too! The reason i say these specs is to at least be able run the latest games with decent settings!

So Chris Vista is good to have but not great. Ive grown accustom to using it and i like it! So its good for if you want it but its not something you really need unless your really a Hardcore Gamer like me and games that are coming out now are starting to be only vista compatible!

Im just a Gamer thats grown up with a father as a salesman that builds\sells\and fixes computers!

Sincerely Alexander Dow

P.S. Im graduating High School next year im so thrilled! And yes at the same time i don’t want to get older!

Just purchased a new laptop for my wife and it came with Vista. I was a bit apprehensive at first because of all the “horror” stories I’ve heard. My wife has had no problems with Vista at all other than learning where a few of the settings had been moved to. I have had no problems with it. A very positive experience all the way around.

I was a bit frustrated with vista, mostly because it managed to corrupt its boot sector which made me no able to dual boot and I had to reinstall everything. What operating system did I reinstall on my other hard drive? Vista. I can’t see myself going back to xp. Period. DX10 is a big thing for me since I am a gamer, and things like networking is infinitely times better than xp. I also learned that OS X has issues too. When I got the error
” The movie could not be opened.
Operation could not be completed. (OSS status error -1409.”
it reminded me of their anti-vista propoganda commercials. They mocked vista’s vague errors when most of the time it is 3rd party software and obviously then vista can’t know what went wrong. I was using quick time and itunes which are both first party. OS X is what I primarily use for general use. Vista is great but OS X is better. Until apple opens its operating system up though apple is irrelevant to the average joe who wants to spend 500 and be done with it. 4gb of ram ( PC 6400, not the slow stuff ), 500gb hard drive, dual layer dvd writer, built in card reader and a 19 inch monitor for 150 extra. Sure, it’s bigger. Sure it doesn’t have an apple logo. But most people don’t care. I do believe OS X is a better OS ( especially application management ) but it won’t be mainstream until apple opens it up or licenses it to HP for example.

i have vista on my computer right now and i have never found anything really wrong with it. Also recently there was a big update/download that now has vista more compatible with alot of things. I like vista and i think it’s just everyone didn’t like it at first so they will never like it.

Word up. I’m glad to see more and more articles like this one appearing. All of the Vista hate has left a happy Vista user like myself pretty befuddled…and yes, I’m tech-savvy. Get this, I’m happy with Vista even though I upgraded from XP on a 2 year old laptop (albeit one with a 256mb video card).

I personaly hate all there people who say “I have never had a problem with Vista and I love it” well you love it because you never had a problem with it, me on the other had bought Vista and have had problems from day one untill this point where I don’t even bother thying to use the damn thing.

I just assembled a new computer, all brand new parts, most of them are top of the line most powerful pieces of hardware you can get, unfortunatly I can’t harness that power because vist gets a BSOD every time I start the computer as well as every time I attempt to boot from the install disk, makeing it a $100 piece of plastic.

Maybe you all dont have a problem with your 1GB GPU’s and 4GB memory and 1TB HDDs and your 3.2GHz CPUs but me with a real computer can’t stand Vistas problems that go way beyond compatability.

I completely agree with this article. Why? Because not too long ago, I was the same way. “Oh, Vista sucks!” I said, but I had never actually had a prolonged experience with it. Having used XP for as long as I can remember, (I’m 17-_-;) I was a little biased. But having used it first hand….I have to say, I was wrong. The reason people (like my Dad, for example,) hate it so much is because of REALLY bad hype. I for one cannot wait to bootup my new laptop on Christmas Day (I found your hiding place Mom.XD) to see the pretty Vista graphics. Cause out of all the stuff people say is wrong with it, you gotta give it one thing. It’s pretty. =]
