Water on Mars!

I’m a big fan of NASA and the space program, have been ever since I can remember.  I love SciFi movies and shows that depict life on other worlds populated by humans and other aliens.  Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Buck Rogers, I was, and still am, a fan of them all.  I have often wondered what it would be like to travel the stars and visit other worlds.

Not only does this discovery of water mean life on mars may have once existed (dare I say might still exist), but those 2 hydrogen atoms snuggling one oxygen atom means human exploration just got a huge boost.  Not only for exploring Mars but the other planets, and eventually, the Galaxy.  Water means we don’t have to carry it with us which means less weight, which means more room for people and other supplies.  Imagine lifting off from the Earth, landing on the moon (where there may be water as well) to refuel and because of the lesser gravity, using less force to propel us to Mars.  Once there, we can use it as a base for exploring the gas giants and their moons, some of which have their own atmosphere.

Sound far fetched?  I truly believe that I will see at least one attempt to send a group of brave souls to Mars and walk on its surface during my life time.  My kids might see a base built there.  My kids’ kids’ might witness the first base on another planet and their kids’ kids’ might see transforming begin to turn Mars into a second Earth.

In about 5 billion years our sun will die and, if the Earth survives that long, destroy the entire human race.  Our only hope is to start now and find other suitable planets.  I am a firm believer that we are not the only intelligent life in the universe.  I almost want to believe in reincarnation so I would have a chance to meet some of them.

The men and women at NASA are on the front lines to make these things happen.  Because of their dedication, hard work and sometimes ultimate sacrifices, the human race will one day poulate the Galaxy, maybe the Universe.
