Herniated Disk

I went to the doctor late last month for back pain and he ordered an MRI.  Below you will find the report from that imaging.  This aparently is the result, in part, from poor posture, especially while sitting.  It goes to show how important a good chair and good posture habits are to your back.

If anyone has any radiology training and wants to decypher some of the medical speak, please leave a comment.  I have some medical experience and understand some, but not all of it.

MRI OF THE LUMBAR SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST-

The exam includes T1 and T2 imaging obtained in sagittal and axial
projections.

There is marked disc space narrowing and disc desiccation at L5-S1,
and there are modic Type II degenerative changes. There is a right
paracentral disc extrusion at L5-S1, and there is caudal migration
of the inferior portion of the herniated disc. This results in
displacement of the adjacent nerve roots. No additional disc
herniations are demonstrated. There is Schmorl’s node formation
posteriorly at T12-L1. There is no intradural mass effect. The
conus medullaris has a normal appearance. There is DJD of the facet
joints, but this does not result in significant spinal stenosis.

IMPRESSION-

1. RIGHT PARACENTRAL DISC EXTRUSION AT L5-S1 WITH
CAUDAL MIGRATION OF THE HERNIATED DISC.
2. CHRONIC DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE AT L5-S1.
3. DJD OF THE FACET JOINTS IN THE LOWER LUMBAR REGION
WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF SPINAL STENOSIS.
