Solar Powered iPhone

Apple has recently applied to the patent office for “Solar Powered Mobile Devices”.  The patent suggests Apple may integrate solar cells underneath a device’s LCD, possibly used in iPhones, iPods or Macbooks.  The solar panel would be stacked behind the LCD display, absorbing light that passes through.

Motorola previously applied for a patent to do something similar, but found that the area available for the panels, the durability of the panels and the fact that only 6% of light passes through the LCD caused technical issues.

Look for this to be a supplementary power source, used for short term recharging rather than the main power source.
