Open DNS

Chris pirillo mentioned this little option some time ago and I looked into it.  Open DNS is a free service that blocks phishing sites and allows you to block adult content and other potentially harmful or inapropriate areas on the internet highway.  It also helps to speed up your internet.

Simply sign up for the service with a free account, set the appropriate DNS servers into your router, choose your settings on the OpenDNS website, wait 3 - 5 minutes and it’s done.  Any computer on your network that tries to access a site blocked by you or OpenDNS will get a splash screen, which is customizable by you, telling them that the network has blocked the site.  Should you wish to have access to a site that the system blocks, you can simply add it to the “white list”.  Want to monitor sites that people are accessing?  You can do that to.

My sister’s church maintains a wireless network but did not allow church members to access it for fear of dangerous or inappropriate surfing.  So I mentioned this service, set it up and wallah, no chance of phishing or teens going to naughty sites.

If you maintain any kind of network, be it personal or business, I highly recommend this free service.  Check it out at www.opendns.com .
