HP Photosmart C4380 Review

A few days ago I went to Staples in search of an “All-In-One” printer.  As manager of the apartment complex I live in I needed something more than just the ability to print, and to be honest I really wasn’t inpressed with my Lexmark.  Main reasons were the fact that the print quality was never consistant and the ink cartridge price was very high ($30 for a black cartradge).

After searching for some time on the internet and reading reviews I decided on an HP product.  I chose Staples because I had 2 coupons for $25 off of my next purchase.

I finally decidedon the HP Photosmart C4380.  I must say i am extremely impressed with this device.  Below are some “Pros” and “Cons” I have experienced.

PROS:
1.  Print quality is superb, even at draft quality setting.
2.  Wireless capability, which eliminates the need for a physical connection to the computer and allows for all of my computers to use it no matter where in the apartment it is located.
3.  Photo printing is absolutley stunning, with lab quality photos the result.  I am using Office Depot High Gloss Photo paper.
4.  Ink replacment price.  Compared to other manufacturers, the price of replacment ink is low cost at $18 for a color cartridge and  $15 for a black cartridge.
5.  The interface is easy to use and the card reader built into the printer allows you to print photos directly from the device with no computer needed.
6.  The retail price was only $109, although I was able to use both of my $25 coupons in addition to an instant $20 discount.  Making my total cost slightly over $40.

CONS:
1.  The instalation program took forever to install, with numerous restarts required.  I estimate it took at least 45 minutes from the time I put the instalation disk into the drive to the time I was able to use the printer.
2.  The wireless connection was a bit touch and go.  I was eventually able to connect wirelessly but not without a bit of a headache.
3.  The paper feeder does not hold allot of paper, maybe no more than 30 sheets.
4.  The device’s footprint is a little large.
