The Time Has Come For Analog

Well, I’ve posted before about this and tomorrow (Monday) is the day.  AT&T will flip the switch for Analog service to the off position, permanently.  Why are they doing this you may ask.

Well, the technology is old and is taking up bandwith that can be used for GSM, UMTS and the up and comming 4G technologies.  Technology is a moving, changing entity and old services simply need to be put aside to make room for the new.  Since 2006 cell phone companies have been informing thier analog customers aboout the turn down through letters, text messages, blurbs on the bills, and a variety of other ways.

I fear, however, that tomorrow will not be a good day at work.  I expect allot of calls into technical support because a customer’s phone sundenly stopped working.  Some of these customers will be very upset and claim we gave them no warning whatsoever.  I expect to be yelled at, called names, threatened and cussed at allot tomorrow and am not looking forward to it.

So, should you, or more likely your parents have the old TDMA service, the only option is to upgrade to GSM.  Untill tomorrow you can do so at the website.  After that you must go into a store.  If you do not upgrade you will loose your phone number and there will be no way to get it back.
